Robbie Keane told to return to Spurs or rot at Liverpool by Rafa Benitez

Robbie Keane was last night forced out of Liverpool before completing an incredible return to Tottenham.
Keane, who only moved to Anfield for £20.3million in July, was determined to stay.
But boss Rafa Benitez bullied him into rejoining Spurs after warning he was prepared to let him rot in the reserves for the rest of the season. Republic of Ireland striker Keane, 28, even told Liverpool he only wanted to sign for Tottenham on loan until May.
But Benitez made it clear that the forward had no future on Merseyside while he was still manager.
The bitter breakdown left Keane with no choice and he returned to White Hart Lane for an initial £12m, rising to £15.5m.
Benitez is now set to sign a new four-year contract this week to stay at Anfield.
The Keane deal puts down a marker that he has won his battle with chief executive Rick Parry to be in charge of transfers. Keane now returns to Tottenham with former team-mates Jermain Defoe and Pascal Chimbonda, who have been re-signed by Harry Redknapp within a year of being sold.
Liverpool wanted Aaron Lennon as part of the deal, but finally agreed to sell Keane after the London club increased their offer.
Tottenham will have to pay extra in add-ons for appearances and success, and have agreed to match Keane's £65,000-a-week contract at Liverpool.
Redknapp said last night: "I'm thrilled and delighted that Robbie Keane is back at Tottenham.
"He can make all the difference for us. Robbie can be great for this club again."

I dont believe it. Benitez might be a knob, but I dont think he would force someone out of the club like that, especially with such threats as letting him rot in the reserves. Keane did nothing wrong, he is a model professional, but just wasn't playing well or getting game times.

This is BS.

Given Benitez' previous, it wouldn't surprise me at all. He and Ramos seem to have similar views on man-management.

I can fully believe it, Benitez is an absolute arse.

There may not be any credible sources quoted but that doesn't mean we should dismiss this as rubbish, given Rafa's track record. He has all the people skills of Alan Sugar.

Wouldn't surprise me either, in fact he apparently said the same to Pennant in the summer, lo and behold he's pretty much been rotting in the reserves untill this loan to Pompey came off.

Does it not surprise anyone that all of a sudden Keane is back here so quickly? do you really think he would just say "nah it's not been great at Liverpool, I'm gonna leave my boyhood club, CL footy and the chance to see out a PL winning season" I don't believe it, Keane isn't the giving up type, especially not there.

He has quite obviously been told that he isn't likely to feature much at all, so there's no point sticking around and fighting for your spot.

Those are what I believe to be the facts.

Daily Mirror= anti Spurs spin on everything. Haven't paid for that shit-rag since they "covered" the financial irregularity story and were so massively anti Tottenham that it was crazy.

Any other paper and this article may have been true.

Not sure this is anti-Spurs, rather pointing out the Fat Spanish Waiter for the overhyped fuckwit he is.

scouse mate of mine says there is probable truth in this beacuse it was rick parry who signed him and not rafa.

the fat lawyer buddha forced keane out as a message to parry to say: if you want me to stay on, i want full transfer control.

the most important thing for Keane succes, it's needed Gareth Barry arrival rather than Riera, and Fit Torres.

Mascerano
Gerrard - Barry
Kuyt ..................... Keane
Torres

or

Kuyt - Mascerano - Gerrard - Barry
Torres - Keane(Second striker)

or

Gerrard - Mascerano - Barry
Kuyt - Torres - Keane

or

Mescerano - Barry
Kuyt - Gerrard - Keane
Torres

all of these things very very well balanced formation, but with Alonso staying in the team instead of Barry departure, Gerrard as playmaker & Riera on left, it took a lot of Keane freedom even when he played alongside Torres, look at first half vs Everton and you can see it, but in second half he succesfully RK made fantastic assist for their first goal and created the chance for their 2nd goal. But after Torres injury ? He was used as target man, where he never used at Spurs apart from Ramos ara where his league form and goal scoring record doesn't lie. It didn't work even the determination to win games at the end of the season wasn't there.

With these group of players for liverpool, they needed natural target man or finisher, who is strong physically and good finisher, Torres. Against Chelsea last game, they provided a lot of crosses but nothing was to worry about for Chelsea fans even Torres goal was bad mistake by Alex and poor positiong by Cech.

at the end of the day, Benitez is crap. He always subs Keane too early even in the start of the season, using 4-2-3-1 too much with Gerrard as playmaker where prefered position for Keane, and the worst he used him target man, and then blaming the player for failure and saying he isn't good enough for them.
