Tottenham boss Redknapp insists Keane could still stay

tribalfootball.com May 23, 2011, 11:05 pm

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp insists Robbie Keane could still stay.
Redknapp is looking to trim his squad over the summer, but has not ruled out keeping Keane following a disappointing loan spell at West Ham.
The Spurs boss said: "I haven't written Robbie off at all. He is a top-class professional who has played over 100 times for his country.
"He captains the Republic of Ireland team. He is a top-class professional. He has to come back here and fight to play in the team now."

Yes I know it's tribal football, but let's face it you can't have a Transfer Rumour Forum without there being a Keano-related thread and these are quotes from 'Arry so it's not like their usual wild guff!

I just fancied being the one to start the Keano thread for a change! :-D

Wouldn't it be funny if he suddenly found form and stormed back into the team again! :hump:

Alas, I think not...

Oh dear.

I am a fan that massively appreciates the service Robbie has given to our club but I think it is best for both parties if we all move on.

I agree with Nidge. Love Robbie for what he's done for us in the past (putting the Boyhood Club nightmare to one side). He's a legend for us, simple as that.

We've moved on though and hopefully we can move him on in the summer. A nice move to QPR, maybe, something like that. See out his playing days as a hero at Loftus Road or something.

It's on tribalfootball.com which means redknapp more than likely didn't say that!

If he suddenly found form I would be very happy as I think a decent swansong is the least he deserves. But I don't think there is too much to be read into Harry's comments. If we are going to sell him for even a reasonable fee then I don't think Harry is going to decalre him useless and surplus to requirements.

After all, he is a top, top, top, top, top, top player.

A swansong 20 goal season from Keano for Tottenham would be a very strange thing.

Hey, it might even happen.

It's redknapp just trying to make out he might be worth buying if there is a chance he is still good enough for Spurs. Nothing more

Love Robbie, he is a legend!

But...it seems his days are long gone...

Either we sell him or we let him play play play! That is the only way to get the "old" Robbie back! No point to keep him just on the bench.

Keane expects to leave Spurs

Tuesday, 9 August 2011 21:30

Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane has made it clear he expects to leave Tottenham before the close of the transfer window - but is giving little away about his potential destination.

Keane has been linked with various clubs over the summer, yet remains a Spurs player with just four days left before the start of the new Barclays Premier League season.

Speaking at a press conference today to preview Ireland's friendly against Croatia, the striker admitted any deal to secure his departure from White Hart Lane is unlikely to be completed before the weekend.

But, while refusing to be drawn on specific details, the 31-year-old insists a move is still on the cards. "It's probably likely that I will be going but I can't really answer where to at the moment," Keane said.

"There's obviously a lot of speculation but there's still a couple of weeks to go and we'll see what happens.

"I haven't turned down anything. I think there's a few people talking to the clubs but that's all I can really say at the moment.

"I'm sure in the next couple of weeks it will be sorted out. It's very unlikely anything will happen before the weekend."

Asked if his preference was to stay in London, Keane said: "No, I'll move.

"I don't know why this story keeps coming out that I want to stay in London. I've never said that. I'm quite happy to go anywhere.

"For me, it's just about playing regular football and if that's outside London I'm not too bothered."

Keane was on loan at West Ham for the second half of last season as the team were relegated to the Championship, and when questioned today about which division he might end up in, he did indicate that he was looking to stay in the top flight.

He said: "Of course clubs have to agree a fee but, not being disrespectful at all to the Championship, if I got an option to play in the Premier League, I'm obviously going to take that.

"But there's been no talk of any Championship team."

Keane, who will lead his country out against the Croatians at the Aviva Stadium tomorrow night, has fallen out of favour at Tottenham but is still showing his potency for Ireland.

In his last outing for the Republic in June, he scored both goals in a 2-0 Euro 2012 qualifying victory over Macedonia to take his total to 51 goals in 108 international appearances.
