Everton manager Roberto Martinez is flattered to have been linked with a move to Tottenham.

Martinez moved to Everton last summer, taking over from David Moyes, and in a superb first season the charge the Spaniard went close to guiding the club into the Champions League.
Although they fell short of their goal, Martinez has earned rave reviews for his performance, which has resulted in him being linked with a move away from Goodison Park.

Tottenham has been mentioned as a potential destination for the manager, which he has taken as a great compliment.

“We take it as a real footballing compliment,” Martinez told his press conference on Friday.
“This is the time you’re going to get the rumours about the next squads, the next moves.
“That means we’ve done something right as a football club. We take it in a positive manner and we just carry on working hard.”

Give the man the job....

Has managed 3 premier league clubs.... Won a Fa cup...

Lives and breathes football.

Knows La Liga inside out and would save tons on transfer fees.

You lot are barking up the wrong tree. He's not "flattered" in a come and get me Spurs kind of way. He's saying he's happy with the job he's doing at Everton if it means clubs are interested in him. He also never neglects to say the word "we". He wouldn't leave a contract after a year. He's actually a good bloke.

He's the manager I want the most. By a country mile. Great attitude, great football, great tactical knowledge and he knows how to build real togetherness within a squad, something I can barely recall us having.

But at the same time I'm sure he's possibly the least attainable.

I really feel our new manager needs some premiership experience. If we take another punt and it doesn't work, we're going to end up in a really dire position. Now isn't the time for risks.

Yep, totally agree.

The fact he's saying 'we' tells you all you need to know.

If anything, he's reinforcing his loyalty to Everton with those quotes. Really classy manager, wish we had one of similar ilk. Fantastic ability and class.

This. And he wouldn't work with Levy and all the behind the scenes nonsense at Spurs either. Shame, but the field for who would actually work with us is probably going to get narrower and narrower, until all we're left with is Sherwood, Hoddle, Levy himself or Chripy.

No it isn't 't. We are a huge pull. Just look at De Boer, one of the brightest coaches in Europe, almost begging to have the job here. We are a huge job, and every team, even utd, sack managers if they aren't doing it

With Everton's lack of funds and relying on loans I can see him leaving for a bigger club at some point but not this summer. Will be interesting to see if they back him to actually sign the loan players permanently or not.

I'd rather see how Martinez gets on next season to then see if he is the real deal. He did very well with Lukaku, Barry and Deulofeu who are unlikely to part of his plans next year.

If Carlsberg's probably, then Martinez at Spurs is never.

I agree we are still a big pull and I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek. Irrespective of the trigger happy sackings though, the structure we have and the way we roll behind the scenes does impact on who we can choose from. Of that I have absolutely no doubt.

Spent two years on the verge of relegation and a third successfully gettig relegated then took over a good settled side which was improved by two or three star players and got them one place higher, hmm! Hardly the best CV.

Best points total Everton have ever had in the Prem. Playing a much better brand of football.

And what he did with Wigan was nothing short of exceptional, to keep them up every year (although not the last) and to win an FA Cup.

Hardly think you're portraying all that too fairly, or indeed accurately.

Odd that there was no outright denial.
More like a condescending, yet gentle knock back. Like when you tell the girl of your dreams you think she is incredibly beautiful and would make any man happy
