I'm sorry if this has been done before, but I've not really been able to face this place for a couple of days, so if it has, let it die a death, like a lot of my posts really.

Pathetic really, but this whole non CL thing has affected me more than I thought it would.

I'm not saying the rules should be changed now, because we knew it could happen, so we have to deal with it. But I really want/hope UEFA/FA can do something about the rules in the future, mainly because whoever the club is, wether it be in this country, Spain or wherever, I don't want a fan of the club who misses out feeling like I'm feeling. It's actually a horrible situation and it needs to be dealt with so that it doesn't happen again.

Anyway, I'm being a pratt, as I know it's only football and we will come back stronger for it, but I just needed to say it.

heres my take on it from the other thread

TBH I think we should have a CL place any of the traditional top 4 clubs would of made a complaint and it isn't right that arsenal keep their group stage place and we lose our qualifying stage place

The rules also say IIRC that if a country with 3 places wins the CL they get 4 if they don't finish in the top 3, yet last year there was like 8 english teams in europa, it seems UEFA are happy for teams in one nation to overload one competition but not the other which is double standards

When we don't complain it makes me think we are a small club who is just too happy to take the crap given to them even the european journo's have been saying that it isn't right what is happening

I feel the same about it though. The team that wins the CL has just achieved something monumental and earned maximum revenue from the run as well. It seems totally skewed that you then hand them another crack and take it from someone who's earned it over a longer haul.

Winning should be reward in itself, or at thievery least the best compensation for not being in it the following year. Their fans have had that ultimate joy, the club has gained that ultimate huge revenue.

The rules should change...

A queen should not be allowed to move all eight squares along a rank, file or diagonal.

One square diagonally like it should be!

That's my point BC, we earned it over a 38 game stretch, yes, I know we only have ourselves to blame about not getting third, but that doesn't solve the issue.

I really don't want fans of another club feeling this crap about things in the future.

The rule is ultimately 'protectionist' in this situation.

The situation is supposedly unlikely, but has happened 3 times since 2000-2001, at least, right?

The rules shouldn't be changed. It is the Champions League, and the champions should rightly be able to defend it. We were just unlucky.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be able to defend it, but this situation is shit for any team, there must be a solution going forward, surely?

You just watch when a Big Club gets knocked out because of this and see the rules change in their favour

I starting to think we do have a small club mentality in the club and thats more scarier than anything we saw liverpool bully us out of the under 19 tourney earlier this year without even putting up a fight

Why should they? Why should 4th place take you into the "Champions" league? I know I am being pedantic, but I hate the way everything else is devalued just to qualify for a tournement. I LOVE the Fa Cup, I LOVED winning the League cup and when we got into Europe under BMJ I fucking loved it. We took it seriously and got to the quarter finals before being beaten in a great tie by an excellent Sevilla. The rest of Europe takes the EL seriously so why can't we?

I usually agree with you Matty, but I think in this case. We need to accept it and move on.

Jim, I agree with all of that, I love winning trophies, and being only a *cough little bit older than you*cough, I have witnessed more trophy wins and want those days back, I also hope that we give the waffa a real good go now we are in it.

I just want the nobchops in charge to sort it in the future, I'm not asking this for us, I've accepted it.

There's no point in people getting high and mighty about wether 4th or 3rd should be in the CL league, they are. Let's just make a good situation out of it.

I just hate the way football has been ruined. I loved watching the Cup Winners Cup and I loved watching the UEFA cup.

IMO Fa Cup winners and Europa League winners should go into CL. Then top 2 or 3 in the prem also.
