The whole thing falls apart because "Check complete" conveys a decision has been made but not what decision.

Presumably it just needs to be updated to be "Check complete - no goal". That puts an end to this happening again.

Also, wondering if the VAR folks allowed the game to resume because they thought the on field official had made a final decision and over-ruled their advice.

That doesn't happen with offsides quite the opposite.

What a shitshow, but like others have said every week there are a number of bad VAR decisions, it’s just managers only get very vocal about it when it happens against them not for them.

Diaz was onside, although I think it was a close call as Romero’s foot was stretched out but Diaz’s arm was also out, but seems like lines drawn would have resulted in a goal.

Jones deserved a red card. Neville is a fucking pillock going on about intent. Reckless is reckless, he went in studs up, foot off the ground and yes going over the top of the ball was likely accidental but he could have broke an ankle/leg bone with that tackle and it’s a red for me all day long.

Jota is an idiot. There was very little in either tackle, but the first one was cynical and the second was stupid. One slightly harsh yellow and one fair yellow based on other cards being dished out.

Last week it was all “they need to make the decision quicker, even if they get it wrong”

This week it’s all “VAR are ruining the game we should get rid of it”

They all seem to be missing the main point here that it was flagged offside by the on pitch lino

Isn't it wonderful and joyous that we, Spurs, have had decisions go for us and thus have sneaked away with 3 points from a game that very few had predicted us to win.
Var is shit ...... long live Var.

When did Neville become a Liverpool fan? He’s such a shite, he’s a good commentator I wish he would leave his personal opinions out of it.

I still don't think the technology is the problem, it's the people using it. Somehow after years of having it they still don't know how best to use it.

If VAR was used properly or the semi automated system then that goal is given.

But that is the ONLY contentious decision from yesterday's game as far as I can remember. Even then I don't remember Liverpool players going mad about it at the time? Almost like they accepted it?

Pigmol didn't apologise to us last season when Jota kung fu kicked Skipp and made him bleed, then proceeded to score the winner for Liverpool. That for me was worse than what happened today. I don't know why certain clubs get apologies and we don't.

Last week Vicarios leg was almost broken and not a pip squeak. Lo Celso got stamped on the head one game too and VAR looked and gave fuck all lol
That winner also cost us European football, right? Better goal difference than Villa so we would be in the Conference.

Such a non-point.

If people can't use the technology properly, then technology IS the problem.

VAR simply doesn't work because the right decisions are not being made.

I had to think after listening to his fawning and lamenting on Liverpool....who did Neville play for?
Or, is it that he really dislikes us!

So happy we don't have VAR in Irish football, the refereeing is terrible, but at least you only get angry about decisions once and move on. We'll be hearing about this "injustice" for a long time because it's happened to the victims again. Rather than moan about it, Liverpool really need to concentrate on their own discipline on the pitch. With the exception of MacAllister, all red cards have been deserved. The reaction of VVD after his red against Newcastle should have been punished more severely.

After quite a few years of listening to the way referees in Rugby communicate with the TMO, clear and concise making sure to repeat back what they're being asked to look at and then all confirming that they all understand the decision being made I can't understand how the VAR yesterday didn't know explicitly what the onfield decision was, and what they were being asked to confirm. And then to compound it, VAR didn't even communicate back to the pitch what they'd found, simply saying 'check complete'.

They must still have had a chance to get back in the refs ear as he awarded a free kick and not the goal they thought they'd confirmed. VAR worked as it should - hell the VAR team even came to the right decision! It was just a monumental failure of communication.

Still funny though.

He’s a strange guy, Liverpool are more hated by United fans than City, him saying the tackle on Bissouma was a yellow…. I nearly spat my Carslberg Special Brew all over my wife.

The right decisions aren't being made because there are idiots using it. I bet Dave from the pub could tell you blind drunk it was offside without the lines.

We have needed technology for years and it's used much better in other competitions around the world. I'm not saying it would be 100% perfect, but we shouldn't need to have weekly PGMOL statements.

Why oh why this league rejected the offside system I will never understand.

Honestly I think we should hand the running of VAR to an independent group and not the officials who look after their mates. Might see a positive change.

And also without VAR Jones doesn't get sent off, so it DOES get it right when used properly.

I really find the "played the game" line patronising and stupid. Neville, Klopp and Richards have all rolled it out and it's fucking nonsense, they played the game at least a decade ago to start with and secondly I don't care if it's park, playground or World Cup final someone going in studs up half way up your shin is reckless and a red card.

The onfield officials didn’t give the goal either. The technology isn’t the problem.

This.

And perhaps more importantly nowhere in this law is the word intent mentioned. Probably because intent is impossible to prove.

All of this would have been avoided by the VAR official saying something like 'Red 7 onside, award goal', instead of 'check complete'.

It's such a simple way to avoid ambiguity that I find it bizarre that's not how they sign off.

I suspect they’ll review how they communicate and change things after this.
