Tottenham have identified Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak as the ideal long-term successor to goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, but Manchester United could provide competition for his signature.

This would be replacing Hugo too literally. Another keeper with pretty average sweeping/passing ability, although fantastic in other areas. Oblak would work well in out current system but for the future you'd like someone who gives us the option to defend higher up the pitch.

Surely we would aim to sign a player who fits our current system, rather than planning our recruitment around a hypothetical system that we don't play.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think a Conte team would defend high up the pitch irrespective of the keeper.

Come next summer I'd be surprised if we had one more year of Conte, whereas you'd assume we'd keep a keeper for a lot longer. I'd hope to sign someone who was also good at the 'traditional' stuff so it wouldn't be an issue to play under Conte.

We've always been an attacking team. We made exceptions for managers who were seen as bit of a coup (let's not talk about Nuno), but going forward I think most of us would favour going back to a more progressive style.
