Fuck me, that referee really is poor. He gets more 'big' decisions wrong than any other current referee and he's been selected to officiate at the Euro's. There's an endorsement for the rest of them. He's 39 years old which means we have to put up with him for at least another six years. And on top of all that he's got an oily and very punchable face.

I'm not one for giving anyone a coating but he comes close to making me lose my veneer of respectable, handsome and well hung charm.
He’s been awful since VAR came in. I’m baffled he’s still seen as ‘elite’

We’ve too many players off form at the moment and no clear style of play , we try and play it out from the back but don’t have a midfielder coming looking / asking for the ball . When we lose the ball we seem to chase the ball to the area of the pitch the balls in and leave gaping holes all over the pitch , im not sure I’ve ever seen a premier league play like this . Teams don’t even have to play well against us , we just gift them goals . Ange needs to have a long think about how he can solve these issues .

As for tactics, my single biggest complaint is that we haven’t addressed the “crowding of our goalkeeper on corners” issue.

Ben White was MUGGING Vic the whole time. I saw the goal coming a mile away. WTAF

I remember losing 5-0 at home to these a couple of days before Christmas in 1978. Ho Ho fucking Ho :D

That was during a seven game streak without a win.

I bet Kev was there. Well...........@TheChosenOne ? Did you feel the festive pain too?

It’s the midfield, Bissouma wasn’t the same after the Luton game and his form fell of a cliff after AFCON, Sarr also hasn’t been the same since coming back from there, Maddison hasn’t been the same since his injury, and it’s clear as day that Ange wants the wingers to hug the touchline and beat their man before drilling the cross in, I can see exactly what the tactics are, with the right players and little tweaks the foundations are there.

Is anybody able to clarify why VdV's goal was called offside? Yes I agree he was offside but the ball ricochets off an arsenal player I believe so wouldn't there be two phases of that review? Phase 1 being when initial shot being taken and phase 2 being when ball ricochets?
Ricochets don't count, it's only when the opponent has a controlled clearance on the ball. In that occasion he doesn't know enough about it.

The lacklustre - and tbh; appalling - defending on corners and set pieces must be addressed before the start of the next season. Not doing so would be gross negligence from Postecoglou. He’s the head coach, he’s in charge - his responsibility.

My other main concern defensively, is how soft we appear in the middle of the park. Teams all across the league run through us like a warm knife through bench warm butter.

I do have a strong feeling this is not solely caused by central midfielders not good enough. To me it looks like our front pressing is too individual and not even close to collective enough. One player runs and press, then - when the pass is made, the next player runs to press. It’s reactionary and a progressive; the players should make the press collectively - or not at all. It’s just too easy to play through us when it is done like it was throughout the first half today (and more or less ever since “that Chelsea match” tbh).

To have the players to press as one, simultaneously, must surely be Postecoglou’s idea. The drilling in training of the players to execute this during matches is, evidently, not very successful.

I hope the "comeback" doesn't overly gloss what was yet another shockingly bad defensive performance, and also the fact that we didn't actually create either of the goals we scored.

For me I would like him to stop doing "how we play, is how we play", I would like some focus on how the oppositon plays eg last game against Newcastle, we had no plans to combat them 3 forwards the whole game. Some tactical tweaks would have served us better in them games where we have had a hiding. Saying he doesnt care about finishing 4th but is focusing on improvement, but apart from not sitting back and trying to contain the opposition anymore, we are no better defensively and struggle against opposition that sit back. Finishing 4th or above with the start we had would be a statement to our team and the rest of the premier league. Now the league know that again we dont need to be taken seriously.
For me he bottled his own stance.

He started Hoijberg over Bissouma. He dropped Sarr over Bentancur.

Yep. We hear about Ange's pressing game...but simply don't see it.

Except every time Johnson got the ball he cut in and never got crosses in , was very odd

Like Clattenburg before him, we’ve got a bizarre habit in this country of celebrating referees who pick and choose when to apply the rules. It’s bollocks and only makes it easy for fans to cry corruption when it’s not corruption it’s just a mixture of arrogance and incompetence.

He was just offside when Porro (?) Struck the ball, doesn’t matter that Gabriel then headed it. Had he been onside when Porro stuck it and then offside when Gabriel headed it, it would have stood

But before it hit Gabriel it came off Tomiyasu, who in my opinion, made a deliberate attempt to clear Porros shot so therefore VDV should have been declared on side.
