Yeah it really was asking for trouble not giving ange another CB, but levy will always leave us short in the transfer market. That will never change.

Is anyone doing both?
Yes. You get people arguing the performance was naive and then arguing that the subs clearly intending to pack the midfield were wrong, because fans are desperate to find The Reason we lost and work backwards. We lost cos Villa are fantastically organised, our finishing wasn't good enough and we're running out of players. That's it.

Well I thought the team selection was inspired and we completely dominated while Bentancur was on the pitch. That horrible foul from Cash and seeing Bentancur having to go off was just sickening in the context of his long recovery and it clearly affected the players. We still created so many chances though and should have won that comfortably despite inevitably conceding a couple.

The goal is clearly to score more rather than concede less and we were so close again. Those little touches in the final third are the hardest thing to gel, especially when players who are not used to each other. It will come

I am still so excited about where this manager is going to take us. The only game I didn't enjoy was Wolves because that felt like a giant step backwards. Today once again feels like we are back on the path. Villa are supposedly our direct competitors this season, but we'll be leaving them in our wake soon enough under Ange

Disagree that Gil hasn’t been bad. He’s gotten into good positions but has wasted all of them, and his weakness on the ball is the reason Villa is level. I’m incredibly frustrated with him.

Didn't see the one he put on a plate for Sonny then?

I've said this before but a number of 'squad' players we have are not good enough when they need to cover injuries/suspensions for a run of games and with the change in style of play this season, some are completely unsuited.
They are good enough when you only need to call on 1 or 2 but having to play 4 or 5 from the start is a disaster.

In isolation it was a ridiculous sub but I think it was a piece of bigger picture man management to try to keep him on side a bit. He should however have brought Donley on along with Veliz. I'd have taken Son off who was tiring.
To keep who onside? Skipp? That's laughable of that's what you mean.

Now here's a hypothetical question. If we keep losing let's say the next 5-6 games despite showing attacking intent, will the pressure be on Ange? Or let's say if the losing streak goes beyond 10 games, what will your thoughts be?
Can't imagine any pressure on Ange. The football is good, the circumstances are clear and the expectations at the beginning of the season were low.

It’s been said already but Skipp coming on was about as pointless as anything could be.

would have gone for Donley over Veliz as well. At least he would have dropped into the hole and left son on the last man. If he’s not getting 10 minutes in that game, you may as well fill the bench with 5 keepers next week.

Hojbjerg is totally exposed in Ange’s system
Makes me wonder why he plays him?
We were still much the better team today with our B team. Just very wasteful, unfortunately.

Well that's two games in a row we should have won with our 2nd string. Lack of composure defensively and in attack has cost us dearly.
Exactly this. Totally onboard with the high tempo approach but, we need to slow ourselves down at vital moments, eg Son continually running offside instead of holding his run knowing he’s quicker than his marker…Get that bit right and we’ll be contenders.

That and signing another 4 or 5 first team players 😉

Another one....I'm sick of people keep telling me it's either this or Conte football! It fucking isn't. There are a whole number of levels in between FFS.

I'm not saying don't play this way, or that we need to be more pragmatic. I'm saying if you keep asking the same players who CAN'T play this way to do so, expect the same result. I certainly did.
I’m not saying that’s the only other way to play, just using it as an example based on what we’ve seen recently. But I repeat, there isn’t a way of playing that suits the defensive personnel we had available. So I’d rather we played to a system that gives us a very good chance of scoring at the other end. The goals we conceded weren’t a result of Ange’s tactics - one was a set piece and the other was a great finish after some questionable defending by a right back trying to play centre back

We didn’t lose this game because of Hojbjerg or Skipp though so your point is moot.

Try Son’s inability to stay onside and wasteful play by Deki and in particular Johnson.
