Had the chances in the first 20 mins where Kulu hit the post and Son skied an open goal gone in then we’d be raving about how well the second string did. Fine lines. For me the main thing that needs addressing is some actual CBs for backup so we can stop using FBs in that spot.

No.

The guy is working with the deadwood of our squad.

The pressure will be on Levy to get his wallet out in January.
Unlike Conte who this time last year had the luxury of picking a defence from;

Loris / Forster
Spence / Doherty / Royal
Romero / Sanchez / Dier / Lenglet / Tanganga
Davies / Sessegnon / Perisic

... every flipping week!

Yeah it really was asking for trouble not giving ange another CB, but levy will always leave us short in the transfer market. That will never change.
Agree for the most part but Ange green-lit the sale of Sanchez who, for all his faults, is fast and *at least* suited to playing in a high line.

Disappointed in Son falling into their offside trap way too easily.

His lack of awarness in the final third was very unlike him. His positioning for the last offaide goal was just lazy. He has to prepare for potential rebounds etch.

Now here's a hypothetical question. If we keep losing let's say the next 5-6 games despite showing attacking intent, will the pressure be on Ange? Or let's say if the losing streak goes beyond 10 games, what will your thoughts be?
The only way we'll lose 8,9,10 in a row is if we get 3-4 more injuries so there will be no pressure on Ange and rightly so.

The only time levy has ever bowed to pressure in the transfer market was when there was the possibility of relegation.

It’s fantasy for us to believe Levy is suddenly going to go out and spend to give us a real chance of doing anything.

Season starts again in January then
Go all out for the FA Cup and hope we’re still around 5th/6th/7th place

Well played by the team. Just have to be more clinical. Son is our most clinical player and statistically one of the most clinical finishers on the planet, but he has to learn to watch the line more when playing as a 9.

Kulusevski's misses seemed very unlike him today. Gil shows promise but needs to be a lot less one footed and more direct at times. Johnson similarly played well in general but nearly always looks for the pass and needs to shoot sometimes. Also he should have anticipated the ball across from Kulu when we hit them on the break and got further forward. He had Digne on toast first half and we should have used that more.

You have to bear in mind that our spine has been spine busted. Our spine is actually excellent, but the drop off without the starters is noticeable.

That said, Bentancur filled in magnificently for Bissouma and it's disgusting that they've got away with taking him out while he was running the game. Big credit to Gio too, played brilliantly. I said in pre-season that he is a player that thrives in a pass and move system and he showed what he's about today.

No lack of creativity, just the finishing and final third movement that needs work.

Despite the result you can see the vision - better finishing/decision making/timing of runs and we are 3/4 goals up before they lay a glove on us. This defeat is more on the attackers than that make shift defence who done alright for the most part. Sloppy marking for the first goal and then Højberg being a traffic cone and Emerson not getting the block in for the 2nd goal is all they really done drastically wrong - the attackers squandered multiple situations
I hope Roddy isn’t seriously hurt, that’s the most frustrating thing of today because that was a cowardly tackle from a player with history of being human garbage

Losing bentancur and the goal before half time really killed the game for us. Gil and lo celso were 2 big positives

Ange was happy to sell Sanchez. It’s on him.
We're kidding ourselves if we think Sanchez is a good option i'm sorry. Sure he's got pace but not much else. It was the right decision to get rid whilst we could. Space freed up in the squad to move quickly for a player who's a better fit there.

What is the point of playing to the strengths of our poor players. It isn't how we want to play and you just cover up their limitations. Play like this and it is obvious who needs to leave the club. Would rather lose a few more now and prove who can stay. Even today I saw a few players step up to the mark, and will strengthen our squad. What other team could play 2 left backs and 2 right backs and batter the opposition. If Son played well today we would have won. Have a think about that with 3 of our best midfielders out and no centre backs, we battered Villa who were 5th. I understand the emotion of a loss, but we need perspective or we will just end up moving Ange on and move onto the next Levy project. Its tough but for the first time in 4 years I feel a lot more positive about our future.
