I think Hojbjerg has been our best midfield after the Everton game. I’m a bit worried about the Scum game, yes their defence looks dodgy but their forward line is dangerous and Partey looks a real player, wish we’d have gone for him as he looks a José player, strong, disciplined and good on the ball.

They've scored 9 goals this season

There's no bloody way we deserved to win that. Even when we struggle to control a match, we can usually point to the brilliance our forward line as having bailed us out, but that wasn't true tonight either: Kane was anonymous, Son ineffective and Lamela only a bit better.

The defence played well, but our problems were overwhelmingly in midfield - we simply could not keep the ball. After the promising first 15 minutes and a slightly dubious penalty, Brighton just took over the match and we never got it back. Every loose ball would run to a Brighton player, sometimes 10-15 in succession. There were periods of 10+ minutes when we couldn't assemble even the most basic of passing moves in midfield without losing the ball.

Fortunately, Brighton can't afford top strikers, so their chances were not top quality and only one was finished - after a foul on Højbjerg. And after a long career, Bale knows how to find space in the box.

If I were Graham Potter, I would be feeling a bit burgled right now. They were the better team for most of the match.

Still. We're second. Rejoice.

Crucial win, not a great game but it was important to dispel the taboo of the first home win
There will come a day in which VAR will not go against Spurs... but it is not this day

3 points. All that matters. Literally.

Over the last 2 years I've got so fucked off with the likes of Liverpool luckily getting 3 points just like tonight.

We were shit but we won. Rather that than a silky attacking display and draw or lose.

I'm normally one who would say this but I do think some just want to see us have a bit more control.

I'm not asking for total domination however I don't think we can allow teams to have so much play, especially around the penalty area. A better team would have done better with their opportunities today and players will get tired of sitting deep.

I think to see us as champions we need something more in midfield to allow us to get a grip on games when we are having issues on the counter. Brighton had us under a bit of pressure at times and we couldn't hold the ball, that's when you need a midfield to wrestle control back for a bit to ease the pressure.
Yea fair id like us to have more control as well but as Jose will tell you you can have ‘control’ without the ball as well it’s just not as fun to watch for the fans.

First half Brighton had an xg of 0.09, most of their possession was their CB’s passing it from side to side. Jose adapts against different teams we play against. Brighton are a high possession team with wing backs so they stretch the pitch but we shut off the dangerous areas. It wouldn’t work in all matches but against say a man.city they will commit far more players forwards so yes we could let in goals but we could also be extremely dangerous on the break against them so let’s see.

After the debacle at the monitor Scott gave us absolutely nothing. It was almost as though he was resentful towards us for having had the audacity to be fouled because it led to him embarrassing himself (twice over) in front of the whole world with a display of unmitigated prideful arrogance. He should genuinely be sacked and never work another match.

We were poor today. Nobody can dispute that. However I think the team deserve credit for not suffering from the injustice of that moron referee. We’ve seen in the past how the team faltered after suffering a shit decision. This time we’ve wrestled the lead back and I actually think the way we handled the final 20 minutes of the game was excellent.

With that said, we do need to be way better than that. We’ve been poor in our last 2 PL games and that obviously needs to change with our horrendous run coming up.

100%! Lpool were so crap this weekend but scraped a 2-1 win, it’s what champions do. We got the job done that’s all that matters.

Missed the first half but the second half wasn't ideal. How on earth we are second in the league boggles the mind, but I'll happily take it!

Brighton worked their bollocks off, so fair play. They got a lot of help from the ref who gave nearly every 50/50 their way (aside from the penalty.)

Ugly game. Credit to Brighton, who like many others against us, completely out hustled us all over the field for long periods. Not sure what is the answer. I was stunned at how static we were throughout. Again, the other team just seemed so much more up for the battle. Especially after our first goal. Son and Lamela were statues most of the game, and Ndomble seemed to find it hard after the yellow card. i know lots will complain about Jose and the tactics. But no coach, be it professional or at the youth level, coaches their players to never move and to be be as passive as possible and sloppy all game long. So please, piss off with that shit today. Again, too many players were lazy and lacked any sense of fight and energy for long periods of the game. That is what Jose has to get figured out. Why they get that way sometimes.

hard win. and delighted we didn’t drop points to one of the very worst ref decisions I have witnessed for quite some time. It was embarrassing as he obviously checked the monitor and it was obvious it was a foul and it was right in front of him, and felt like he maybe felt embarssed.

I actually thought against an open footballing team like Brighton, we would play our best stuff and “out football” them - but we didn’t get near their midfield worryingly
