We lost, but it wasn’t a total disaster. Today the team showed passion and togetherness that has been missing for years. Those fans in the stadium made so much noise and were championing the team until long after they left the pitch.Exactly what I was dreading. A total disaster.
I'm trying to process the loss of the 2 CBs, 1 for 3 games and the other for god knows how longAm still trying to process what i've seen in that game..
Agree.Am still trying to process what i've seen in that game..
Geezer standing behind me moaned at every single touch the guy had. Even the goal. He should be really proud of his efforts. For everyone criticising Dier in these threads, I thought he was really solid and got the defence organised when he came on. Not to mention blocking two shots within minutes!
To add to this - all the talk around 4-3 and 5-4 games is now live. Our back four is the best Ange has ever had as compared to the rest of the league he is managing in, so out defence has been super tight. With that being blown open, we will need Kulusevski, Richarlison and Johnson to start providing goals in bulk.I admire you all for the optimism, but I just can't feel it after everything that just happened.
Our three best defenders (our only three good defenders really) are all out now. Udogie for one game, sure, but our CBs are now Dier and Phillips for the next 3 games and Dier and Romero (who bring out the worst in eachother) for a couple of months after that.
We just got blown up by fucking Chelsea who couldn't hit a pass for the first 15 mins.
And don't get me started on whatever that was by Michael Oliver.
I love Ange, have done since long before day one as I went to many of his games at Victory during that glorious season before he took over the national team. But we are in for a world of pain in the immediate term as this makeshift defence tries to execute a game style they aren't capable of. He won't change, nor should he, but if he can get a tune out of a Porro - Dier - Phillips - Emerson defence next weekend then he may well be magic.
I'm confident that we will be ok in Jan if we bolster the defence, but its gonna hurt for a while.
