The crux of our problems and what we need to address if we are to get anywhere with Ange.

Outside if 13/14 players we are very limited
I don’t agree with that. We are horrifically left short by injuries and the AFCON and Asia Cup. We are probably 3 short in terms of overall squad strength. Probably:

Vicario, Forster, Porro, Royal, Romero, VDV, Davies, Udogie, Bissouma, Bentancur, Sarr, Skipp, Maddison, Lo Celso, Kulu, Johnson, Richy, Son, Solomon

Are all of the required quality so that’s 19. 20 if you include Hjobjerg who will probably depart. You have Dorrington, Philips, Veliz, Donley, Santiago, Scarlett, and Devine pushing.

We could probably do with a CB, CM, LB and wide forward imo

Didn't see a kick of game but from a message from an Everton mate and reading last 2 pages I assume we were lucky?

At the moment we just have too many limited (technically and physically) players on the pitch at once.

We can carry one or two of them but not as many as we are currently having to use.

But I'm glad Ange is not compromising. As he needs to find out who's up to the task and show what is needed to the whole group.

Nice to see they have some balls though

You have four players there Hojbjerg, Dier, Skipp, Davies.

All rigid in their play.
Not agile.
Can't receive under pressure with back to goal.
Struggle with creating passing lanes and playing through.
Crap at 1v1s.
Not firm crisp passers.

And people expect to see a level of control?

Even Sarr isnt a control type player, he is someone who carries and covers ground qucikly.

So we had little balance there.

Everton on the other hand had some balance in CB and midfield.

They dominated because of this.

It really isn't anything groundbreaking
Completely not. The difference for me is you stick Davies in a settled team and he's ok. You stick hojbjerg or dier into a settled team and it becomes unsettled.

Hopefully this is the last of them or it will be a bad window.

On the plus side that was a lovely cameo at both ends from lo celso hopefully he can carry on and stay fit in Jan.

I would not say we didn't "deserve" to win - we got two early goals, that were very much deserved. And, while we were sloppy after that - we earned the 2 goals, and Everton could not match that - despite the gifts.

I lost my mind when Skipp gave away possession in added time. Just one of many that gave the ball away

The drop in quality when our subs came on was very alarming today.

But of the 5 or 6 players who simply aren't good enough, I thought Skipp did okay today.

Just appreciate the win, half of our best 11 was injured/suspended...so no surprise we looked a bit sketchy and hung on at the end.
Fact of the matter is there are glaring weaknesses in our squad.
I’d imagine there will be a fair few more games like this in the near future.

What about Richarlison who was stong on the ball and showed excellent movement?

Or Deki who just never stops?

Or Johnson who showed good decision making at times.
Fair points, I'm just summing up that overall we we fortunate, but I'll take it and on the flip side, we were unfortunate to end upnin the losing against Villa and West Ham this season.

I look at it this way. We came out of the blocks and played technically demanding football even though we didn’t have the ideal personell. We went two up, with one of the goals being a click-clack pass and move beauty. From there on, we were outplayed. But maybe the bravery (stubborn-ness) of that opening burst was what won us the match?

Great first 20 minutes and thought we’d go on and get a few more. Not great at all after that. Thought we looked tired today, not the usual press from the front. Never seen us give the ball away as much as we did today under Ange.

Fuck it though, we won and it wasn’t undeserved. Special mention for Vicario, who was brilliant. Royal was very good too. No one who came in was terrible. 3 points and move on. Merry Christmas all
