We slip off games too often.

It normally starts with a sloppy pass and chance or goal for the opposition.

This then rallies them and they grow in confidence whereas we try to continue playing at a frantic pace which just puts us under more stress.

I think we need to try and take a 5 minute period where we just go a little more direct or focus on slowing the game down.

That'll come in time. Ange's way of playing needs to be well driven in before we complicate things but we need to learn to help ourselves.

Well we made some substitutions at HT, upped tempo and got the goals for the win. Still wasn’t that impressive. Last 15 minutes or so we reverted to sloppiness; misplaced passes by Hojbjerg in our final third, stupid needless foul from Romero and trademark lazy poor passes from Kulusevski with a player potentially in in goal.
It’s not good enough if we want to seriously challenge for honors going forward. Someone earlier mentioned Conte’s comments about us after the Southampton game. I agreed with what he said then; it’s been true about us as a football club for decades. It’s no coincidence that the only club two serial winning managers, albeit they weren’t necessarily a good fit for us, have failed to win a trophy at is Tottenham. There’s a cancer of underachievement at the club. I remember back in 90’s when I was able to go to all the games remarking to a friend that when players moved to another ”big” club they saw it as an opportunity to win things and therefore upped their game whereas when players moved to Tottenham they seemed to view that as success enough, that that was their pension sorted and they could put their feet up and relax. It doesn’t matter who the manager or players are I still get that same feeling about the team . Yes individually they can have standout games but there is never any consistency of performance and as failures in pivotal games continually demonstrate there is always that lack of desire and belief. We almost had it under Poch. Ben Davies, in his interview with Juuls and Gabbs, said that back then the team was so relaxed and confident that going into games they knew they’d win. Even so when those big pivotal games came along they faltered.

We’ve got another serial winning manger in charge in Postecoglu and I wish I felt confident that he will be able to change the mindset of the squad to make us successful. I’ve been supporting Tottenham for over 60 years, whenever in England followed them all over the country and Europe, and time is running out for me to taste the sweetness of a Title win or even some decent Cup Trophies. The frustration over all those years is that we’ve had so many outstanding players and teams but can never gain the consistency of performance and the mental resilience to win the big prizes.

Oh well, we continue to live in hope that this time this manager can succeed for us when so many beforehand have failed.

The drop off this season for Bissouma has been one of the biggest I think I’ve ever seen. Genuinely one of the best 6’s around earlier in the season to a statue out of possession. So clear now how big a part he’s been of us getting cut through when we lose the ball.

Generally thought a lot of our passes were off and unnecessarily ambitious into players with no space to control it. Lost a lot of possession that way.

If we’re going into next season with a transformational 6, and sharper play general, I think we could do some damage.

Happy about the win but if I was Ange I’d be fuming over that performance. I’d send the whole squad on a bootcamp just to work on basics like body positioning, picking the right pass and knowing when to play fast and when to play slow.
90 minutes of nonchalance and laziness both on and off the ball.

I’m concerned over the way we’ve been playing recently. It feels like we’re lacking that edge of bravado and confidence we had a few months ago that gave us an edge.

Which would suggest that our full backs and the back four system as a whole are the ones that need to do some work. Hopefully the coaches are on to it. Do we have a defensive coach and a set piece coach?

He doesn't look that fit to me which is a bit of a worry since even when fit he's a bit of a tank.

Bissouma played well against West Ham, disappointed to see him drop more and more today. It was right call to sub him.

Yeah absolutely there was definitely more than 1 responsible, I just saw Biss jogging back which just annoyed me. As you say Udogie was probably more culpable.

To be fair he did do quite a bit of half-hearted jogging, wasn't winning ball or 50/50s and seemed reluctant to either drive into space or pass more than 10 yards. Something is up with him. Being better than PEH isn't a very high bar.

Grateful for 3 points, but another hollow victory if I'm honest. We're lucky 5th might get us CL. I like Ange and almost all of our players in some way or another, but we're fooling ourselves if we think we have progressed in the last 4 months. That's OK, as long as we make the appropriate moves at the end of the season.

I'd be interested to receive the evidence of how we have progressed in the last 4 months from those that disagree. I'm not saying that in a combative way, genuinely interested in other perspectives and what I may have overlooked?
