Hope Gedson plays a blinder just to piss everyone on here off
We were playing a double Pivot. His jobwas to be conservative. Like c'mon. He was slipping into defence on numerous occasions. This is coached stuff.This.
If Winks was already playing so conservatively against Ipswich, and we have Hojbjerg beside him today, how much better or advance can we expect him to play against PL oppositions?
People like to say his duties will be freed up once Hojbjerg plays with him instead of Sissoko. But for those who have watched the match just now, Winks spent so much time at deep, trying to be the DM and dropping those passes around the area in front of the front 3-4 instead of linking the ball upfront. Some said it was interesting there was a double pivot between him and Hojbjerg. No idea how will Hojbjerg suddenly improve Winks in a double pivot when Sissoko and him played all that last season to such terrible standards. The issue is not about Sissoko or Hojbjerg, but Winks is not suited to a DM role and/or double pivot. There is no doubt Winks and Hojbjerg will exchange their position every now and then, but Winks has to own that space in front of Hojbjerg, not behind, for most of the time.
Dele was the linkup between midfield and the front just now. A midfield trio of Lo Celso, Dele and Hojbjerg are more flexible by all accounts than Winks being in there.
This is the sort of shit @scat1620 pulls
You’re stalking Gedson now? Poor fucker hasn’t got a chance. Grealish hasn’t been the same since summer 2018My boy.

I think some people think that when players go out in a field Winks is just like 'I know I'll step into defence, guess that's a good thing to do'. C'mon.
Both CMs were deep, this allowed for Gedson and Sessgnon to play far foward and have Dele, Son and Lucas play in close proximity to it. Like seriously. If you tell a footballer to play further forward, that's what they'll do, if they can't do that they are in the wrong profession. And Jose would take them out right away, if play that role well is another question.
I guess PEH was given the more mobile role so win the ball further up, with Winks sweeping positionally behind him. This is how most double pivots work. Matic and Kante, Kante and Drinkwater, Pirlo and Gattuso all played this way. In both cases Kante played further forward than his partner. Because one wins the ball and one is about position and distribution.
Ignoring this, this is a preseason friendly about building fitness, maybe some tactical experimentation. Performances are the least important thing in preseason. Getting 45 mins, 90 mins etc under your belt without injury is the mingle most important purpose of a preseason friendly.

Firstly, League 1 football is poor, as someone who has watched a few games, it isn't a very good league of football. Secondly, yeh it wasn't bad from there prospective. Again, context. The last competitive game Ipswich played was in March. It's not like us who are probably still fairly sharp from the end of last season.Thought this was a joke so looked at an Ipswich forum - bloody hell they seem to have either watched a different game or didn’t realise we took off almost all our senior players for the last 25 minutes.
On Sessegnon I thought he was good in the 1st half but I wonder if he was told not to get quite so far forwards in the 2nd in order to give Cirkin more protection. On Jack Clarke, I thought he did fine but his game is tailored to having a proper number 9 to get crosses into - he didn’t have that until Dane Scarlett came on.
This.
