Just a disgusting decision. VAR i could just about take, but this new handball? No, it’s ruining my enjoyment for football, I saw the ones against United last week and Palace this week and thought they were equally disgracful, I knew it was only a matter of time before we got one against us, but in general terms i dont want to see any team have a penalty against them like that. Its not football!!

Whoever made this rule needs to be shot.

Handball Law needs to be changed to if it is deliberate or if the offending players teams is deemed to have gained an unfair advantage as a result of the ball striking a hand/arm..

I've hated the handball rule since the CL final, I'm still not over that. Whatever happened to "ball to hand"... Seriously done with this game because what is the actual point.
I was asking myself the same question for the longest time

Used to be on line, advantage to attacking player, now draw ridiculous lines for decisions.

Used to be ball to hand or intentional handball, now half of the matches completed, we are discussing about VAR and it's ridiculous implementation.

Kane's header? Maybe he could have done better with that? Son pretty much clean through and didn't shoot, other than that I can't remember anything too bad, but that doesn't mean there weren't any..........That's just off the top of my head.
Yeah. Forgot the Son one.

Cant remember the Kane one.

I remember the Chris Foy match which was probably the last time I felt like this and then there was the Paul Robinson 'foul' in Sevilla in the UEFA Cup.
United away- 2 up and penalty against Gomes after he won the ball.

A year or so later Gomes thinks it's a free kick and goes to take it, United player knocks the ball and scores. Ref completely failed to deal with situation.

On and on and on

Honestly feels like this season is a write off with these fucking stupid rules, lets just hope we go far in the cups ...

I’ve not seen anyone say that. We didn’t deserve to lose, but we obviously needed an insurance policy of a 2nd to protect against the risk of a bad decision. They are always possible (and with the shit handball rule, probable).
I'm sorry, chap, I hope you don't take this amiss, but that's nonsensical. You can't legislate for a bad decision.

Let's say we scored 2. What's to say that they wouldn't have been awarded two farcical penalties? Or three? Or four?

We. Won. That. Game. No ifs. No buts.

And then we were robbed of our win.

How hard is it to write a good handball rule.

It's a hand ball if you intentionally move your hand to the ball or if your arms are away from the body and you've made no effort to move them away from the path of the ball when it is realistically possible. Realistically being in the refs interpretation, like a 1000 other rules in the game are. I'd throw in that if arms have been raised into an un-natural position with the intention of gaining an advantage through contact with the ball that would also count. If you'd like you can throw in that any contact whatsoever with the arm that directly prevents a goal would also be a foul.

That's not hard to figure out is it. Yes there will be some controversy over the refs interpretation but fuck me that's what they're paid for and ANYTHING is better than the current rule.

If players started refusing to take the penalty / purposefully missing them that were given in these circumstances, then maybe they'll have to start looking at it immediately.

But we all know that isn't going to happen.

All very well saying "if it goes your way, you take it" but until there is a unity between everyone that the rule is an absolute disgrace, nothing will change.

Gk can refuse to be in the goal though

The refusing to take the penalty/purposefully missing needs to come from the side who wins the penalty in those circumstances for it to be taken seriously by those who write the laws.

VAR was reaching full annoyance even with just all the 'finger nail offside' decisions and to think something else has been introduced that's even worse than that. It's just staggering.

IIRC Kane was only a couple or so yards out and central-ish but put it at an easy height for the keeper and too close. Having said that, he was being challenged at the time, I wouldn't call it a completely free header but I reckon he'd be disappointed he didn't score.

VAR has created more diversity and controversy than before its use-its corrupt.
Would the same decision be given if Liverpool, going for the league needed all 3 points-NO it wouldn't. Spurs were denied a win and 3 points-WHY? Its a refs interpretation on a decision that they have the ultimate power and can influence games beyond their job description. Its open to corruption and misuse and I feel has given the advantage to certain teams that have always enjoyed that bias privilege. Football has reach a point that it needs to make a call on VAR and they way its used.

You can't - but there is simply much less chance of two crazy bad decisions than one. We had one last week, but it didn't matter because the game was out of sight. Nonsense, or basic, simple stuff? It's just an assessment of risk.

I'd go so far as to say you absolutely should legislate (i.e. plan) for a bad decision. We have an extremely tough schedule at the moment and I'm happy to give them some slack for that, but in normal times we should be putting this to bed comfortably. Newcastle were fucking awful.

If only Wilson was more like Robbie Fowler.

We need to see some action from players and managers about this. Blaze pens over or wide if the decision is clearly a farce, or just literally refuse to play and boycott the season until this is dealt with. If all 20 clubs (or at least 15-16) agree to boycott then we might actually get something out of it.

Mourinho is absolutely right with what he says about there being a clear discrepancy between the decisions the “traditional” top 4 get compared to the rest of the league.

I remember the Premier League jumping to Chelsea’s side when VAR “incorrectly” missed a Lo Celso red card (which IMO was not a red card) and issuing an apology whilst the match was still going.

I don’t seem to remember the Premier League apologising to us for taking away Kane’s goal which VAR incorrectly adjudged the ball to have hit Lucas’ arm in the build up?

I also don’t expect the Premier League to apologise today for incorrectly awarding a penalty when the rules literally fucking state that if the player has his back turned he should be given leeway.

Tell me to put on my tin foil hat or whatever, I couldn’t care less, but the referees in this league are artificially useless. They’ve been given a mandate to protect their “top” clubs.
