I know @Wheeler Dealer will disagree but the second half of that half was like watching Pochettino's Spurs. High defensive line. Total control of possession. Lots of probing (and backwards sideways passing).

And like Poch's team of old we finally fashioned a couple of very good chances (thanks to the closest thing we have to Eriksen: Lo Celso) and are unlucky to go in 0-0.

Much improved last 20 minutes.

Dier, again, very solid at the back.
Dier does look much fitter.

Jamie redknapp - disallowing that was exactly why Var was brought in but Liverpool's offside goal should've stood

This was my first thought when watching the replay. He's literally looking across the entire line.

There's no way he could judge by a few millimeters though. With Var you now have to be behind (not level) with the defensive line to be certain not to be offside.

If we continue as we played in the last 15, we'll win this. I don't think we will because we are not very good. Either fitness (possible after all that time off) or Jose is not setting them up right, maybe he's not the manager to get the best out of these players. Who knows. On paper we have very talented footballers. They just aren't clicking. It's like they are done and need a new challenge (who can blame them)
Think we played fine really we had 7 shots and 65% possession to their 35% and 1 shot, it’s a typical tight first half in their cup final. The plan will be they tire and we get 1-2 goals 2nd half. We should really be 1-0 up after the chances we made anyway.

Too slow. Too many touches. Too central.

It's a paradox. How do players that are concentrating so hard on their passing that you can see their tongue sticking out, manage to so frequently, and by such a margin, miss a team-mate with a simple 10 yard pass under almost no pressure?

Of all the teams in the PL, and I include Norwich, we look the most uncomfortable and clumsy in possession.

We've almost always struggled with it, even at our very best.
Because we never play with more than 1 creative player. It was always on Eriksen to provide creativity. Now we have 2 creative midfielders but we don’t play them together.

Not a chance he could know he was offside there, we're talking millimetres.

Exactly, my point. He knows VAR now. As an attacker in the position he was stood, you can’t be level with the defender. It’s too risky that even one of your pubes might be flagged up as offside. You have to be the other side of him.

The first 20 mins were really unconvincing, and two or three times West Ham even had a sniff at catching us out.

Since then we've settled down, plugged away and should really be ahead. In general though we don't look at ease trying to move the ball around and open up a packed defence. This was a problem under Pochettino, it is now an inheritance for Mourinho to fix. Too little idea as to how to manipulate the ball and create space, when to take a touch and when to give it, how to interchange in little sub-units of players, be more decisive or not take as many touches or quality with their action, etc.

Just need to keep going and hope we find that extra bit of quality to make the break through.

I'd rotate the forward line in the second half, even if things stay as they are. All of them a bit ponderous at times.
And in my opinion this is where we need Lamela. With all his faults, he never stops trying to take the ball through a tight defence.

Seriously, I'm not exaggerating or blowing my own trumpet. I'm not that good a footballer really. But ffs I could have finished that chance by Moura. The near side of goal was wide open!!

But it isn't that Moura couldn't finish that chance, it's just that he didn't. 9/10 he puts it away, as anyone who has played football at any level would. It's called missing a chance and it happens to everyone.

Got better as the half went on, and should be leading at the break. Son and Dele need to do more. Kane feeling his way back into it. GLC looks calm and collected. Dier has been decent too.

Please, give us a new LB this year...

Been our most prevalent problem for a long while now.

We just don't have the players needed to break down these defences with clever passing and good movement. It's just slow pedestrian movement and too many touches. While does are shut
Lamela could help out here for Alli though.
