FT 2-0 loss

22 shots 11 on target, but just couldn't find a way through. Could've used a few of last week's goals today.

England U19s won 4-0. Devine played 74 minutes and scored the first goal. Scarlett didn't make it off the bench.

I’m really fascinated what we do with Scarlett and Devine next season. Because they broke through so early it feels right something has to happen for them next season either loan or significant PL minutes.

Sending Olly Skipp off to Norwich and playing a season in the Championship done him a world of good. Perhaps Norwich would like to take Alfie Devine next season? Match made in heaven It seems to me.

I thought I’d seen that mentioned. He needs a good preseason and really get himself in Contes thoughts. I hope to god we don’t find ourselves in Europa League qualifiers or *gulp* the ECL but he must be ready if we do. He looks good physically, looks ready to step up if called on.

Does he?

The rule as far as I know is three years at the club between ages 15 and 21. As he joined us at 16 then that should mean he can do either 18 months or two years out on loan and still be counted as club trained?

Probably better to just get the 3 years out the way at this age makes more sense. Otherwise he has another season where is an issue for squad planning.

If he is going to be as good as we think, does he need another year of under 23 football. Liverpool loaned out Harvey Elliot at 17yrs to Blackburn.
Pointless holding a player back for the sake of being club trained. He is captaining England under 19 at 17 yrs old. Looks physically strong. Could handle a loan next season.

Depends. If hes going to train with Conte and the first team all next season and play some U23's along with making match day squads, as well as becoming club trained in the process then at his age I see that as time well spent. Who knows he could really impress and get meaningful minutes too.

I get the Elliott comparisons but he had been training with Liverpools first team at 16 when they signed him from Fulham so he was probably already a year ahead of Alfie, plus Kane quotes aside hes a sensational talent. Not saying Alfie isnt but people in the game have been talking about him for years prior.

Training with the first team......KWP really benefited from that. They need to play proper football.
It’s as if being club trained is something to aspire to.

Might be slightly counter intuitive, but maybe the player that we developed that just got his first England cap, isn't a player who's development we messed up completely. We developed him well, just didn't then back him to play when he was ready. So Southampton get the benefits of our hard work.
