So I guess the new ground won't be called 'The Autonomy Stadium'?
What happened to this idea that the sponsor will be shared with the naming rights?

That was something that some people assumed, what this sponsor lark has proved is that outside of the inner workings of the club nobody has a bloody clue what's going on and generally any info is made up/guessed.

Probably

It's only a two year deal with Autonomy, so i imagine, if we are indeed looking for a joint shirt/stadium sponsor, that will be all settled up early 2012, just in time for both this deal to expire and the new stadium to be christened (if all goes to plan).

It was just that, an idea. I've tried many times to point out that there's nothing to say the shirt sponsor will also end up with the naming rights. I mean we're not even going to have the same sponsor on all our shirts this season!

Honestly, I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall sometimes. People will go one repeating the same rubbish even if it's been disproved.

This.

Why would someone sign up to an expensive agreement 2+ years in advance of the stadium being completed?

We haven't even got planning permission for the new stadium yet, but we were in need of a new sponsor now.

Sorry, pretty obvious we were only ever going to sign a short term deal, with the option to extend if need be.

I guess it would be pretty stupid to expect a company to pay money to have their name on a stadium that doesn't exist yet.

Thats just what the redtops do so people probably see nothign wrong with doing it themselves. I totally agree with what your saying but imagine if people didn't speculate i'd say 90% of the threads on here would no longer exsist and redtops would be 5 pages in total, 2 of them being the television listings.

I'm not against speculation, I'm against people assuming that the naming rights/club sponsor will be the same company. Everyone just remembers the emirates and assumes that we have to follow suit. We may do, it's just not a dead cert.

I think like most have said we need to secure the planning rights for the stadium, confirm the design, set timescales for the build and possibly solidify our champions league position before we think about who's name we'll use for the staduim. Who honestly is going to fork out a deal probably worth in excess of £20m per season for naming rights when a) there may not be a stadium b) they don't know when the stadium will be complete and c) don't know the likely exposure of the club on an international level.

I'm not confident we can keep in the top 4 on a regular basis but if we could the fact that Barcelona, Real Madrid, the Milans etc etc will all be playing at the " .... " stadium would be a huge negotiating factor that Levy doesn't want to sell short and investors want more proof we'll maintain that global coverage.

In other words, let's just wait and see a little while, if it is part of a shirt deal then it will be a shirt deal done closer to the opening of the new stadium not while they are but CAD drawings in Mr Levy's office draw.
