HARRY REDKNAPP beat off an 11th-hour challenge from Everton to sign Portsmouth's Niko Kranjcar.

The Croatian midfield schemer will join Tottenham in a £2.5million move.
Spurs boss Redknapp said: "I'm really delighted. I signed him for Portsmouth and he's a fantastic player and a great lad.
"I've already got two fantastic Croatian players - Luka Modric and Vedran Corluka - who can help him settle in."
Kranjcar, 25, who will sign a four-year deal, was allowed to leave Croatia's World Cup training camp last night. He is expected to have a medical today.
Redknapp is poised to bolster his squad further with deadline-day moves for Manchester City's out-of-favour winger Martin Petrov and Pompey's England goalkeeper David James.
Bulgarian Petrov, 30, will be allowed to leave City for free - and national team-mate Dimitar Berbatov has told him joining Spurs would be a great move.
Berba, who quit Tottenham for Manchester United last year, said: "I wish a lot that Martin will join Tottenham. The behaviour of City to him is not good.
"Tottenham is a bigger club than City. I know from sure sources that Martin will have a chance to play at Tottenham."
Petrov has pulled out of Bulgaria's preparations for Saturday's World Cup qualifier with Montenegro for talks.
Veteran keeper James, 39, another Redknapp signing during his Pompey days, would also add strength to a squad that is missing first-choice keeper Heurelho Gomes with a thigh injury.
Spurs are also thought to be close to taking Crystal Palace starlet Victor Moses, 18, on loan after beating off interest from Wigan.

Don't the Sun make up a bunch of quotes though, like the Bentley ones last season?

Still, I imagine they'd hesitate with Harry given that he has a column there.

Would've thought that this would be too far even for them!

I just hope we don't get James as well!

can someone confirm for me where exactly both kranjcar and petrov play?

if my memory serves me right, they are both left sided mids, and not in the central mid area, is that correct?

(I'm sick of websites and wiki saying a playing is a 'midfielder'. Such a vague meaningless description!)

Cheers to anyone in advance.

Are Spurs finally signing a left winger, or perhaps even 2 to fight it out? Very very exciting times. Come on Modric's fibula and we'll be raring to go!

The Sun called the Modric transfer first, though that was more of a shock, so I think they might have got this one first as well. Only because of the Harry quotes though.

Kranjcar - Attacking midfielder who can play anywhere across the midfiled i think. Pompey plays him on the left and i think he plays more centrally for croatia.

Petrov - Agressive left winger who can most of the time get to the byline and produce a perfect cross

Kranjcar is strong and technical. Hopefully the CM we have been searching for.

Although doesnt he play LM for Croatia? With Modders in the middle?

from what i can see, kranjcar as main left mid and then modders to revert back to his normal central left sided midfield position with wilson and lil aaron as the other 2 mids, and martin petrov as cover for both kranjcar and modders?

If true very very happy man, quality player and will surprise alot of people on here that has stated "he is no better than what we have", that's utter crap and are probably the same people who didn't want us to get Defoe back. If harry can find away of playing both modders and niko in the same lineup we are in for a treat. For Croatia they don't really have a set position and usually swap betwen CM and LM/LW. He has a trick or two and a sweet shot. We may also have someone who can score from a free kick.

I except harry to play it the other way round, Kranjcar in the middle and Modders on the left. Simply because Kranjcar is taller and stronger.

OH YESSSS, great buy I think. The best player we couldve hoped for after missing out(?) on Joe Cole, VDV etc.

And the fact that its for 2.5 mill, LMAO! Brilliant Mr Levy, BRILLIANT.

Ps His wiki page already says he's moved to us, and has the no.11 shirt!

I think people are getting a little carried away. I mean sure, everything does seem to be pointing to him signing for us tomorrow.

But i wont be actually be happy until i see it on the OS.

When he first went to Pompey I thought he was brilliant. I'm less convinced now. I'm not quite sure why, there is just something about him that doesn't quite fit. Maybe it is that he isn't that quick, or that he isn't that strong, or that his passing isn't that good. I mean he is good at a lot of things, but not great at any. He has looked a little out of sorts as Pompey have gotten worse, but then I guess most players tend to do that.

Still for £2m it is certainly a steal. How many ex-Pompey players is that now? If Harry goes for Muntari as well we will be swamped with them (albeit their best ones). We better hope Harry retires after he eventually leaves us otherwise he'll be trying to take Modric and Palacios with him wherever he goes.
