Obviously in an ideal world we'd have better backup and more options, but as that's not the case I don't really care about Winks playing when he's 1 of 2 only fit senior midfielders. Him and Hojbjerg were the midfield two when we played our best football in the second half against Burnley.

He's not what I'm worried about against Leeds if I'm honest.

What choice does Conte have mate?

Bentancur & Skipp are both out. Hojbjerg will obviously play, so that really only leaves Harvey White, and don't tell me this place wouldn't be up in arms if Conte decided to play a 20 year old kid with next to no first team experience, in a game that's very much in the "must win" column.

I agree he will go with Winks as he will go 5 at the back and by sticking with that Winks is a shoe-in..
Alternative if not stuck in ways, and not playing Winks would be 4 at back, and Dier in centre mid though alongside Hjojberg, and go 4-2-3-1. a formation that served this club very well for years under Poch, and we have only rarely played since

I don’t agree with the poster suggesting we should play a weaker team vs Leeds but for me after recent results 4th is unlikely now and that makes the FA cup more important than it was before
I would definitely play a weakened team v Leeds. Lots of rotation, I wouldn't even start Kane or Son, Boro is the key game.

That latter option has too many moving parts mate. This group of players is fragile enough as it is.

You're practically saying we just give up fighting for league position. Where's the sense in that mate? Play a weakened team against Leeds (as you wish) and we lose.

That'll be 5 losses in the last half a dozen games, and any belief for a result against 'Boro will be wiped clean from under the players feet.

There's millions of pounds for every single league position, which then goes towards the squad strengthening everyone will be expecting in the summer.

We simply must try to win every single game, regardless of what competition it's in. Like I said earlier. The only priority is winning the next game we're playing. And our best chance of doing that, is by selecting the best team possible.

To be fair, I feel there are a few sides whose playing style we match up very well with
Bournemouth when they were in the Prem as they tried to play similar game as us but with much weaker players
Man City as they always allow us the space behind which suits a team with Kane and Son
Southampton for leaving the space behind
and Leeds for same reason

Despite us not being a good side, Leeds are perfect to pick-off for us especially with their long term absentees and no doubt related current form, and the ideal opponents for us.

Want ECL as a minimum next season, so get job done against them early tomorrow (my son has somehow convinced me to catch a train at 5.39 tomorrow morning to go there, I wanted to drive but he wants a dozen beers pre-KO) and then just play same side v Middlesbrough. We really should be able to win both, and then cross fingers we don't get Liverpool or Chelsea or Southampton or Boreham Wood in next round

Swansea was another one we seemed to enjoy playing.

Villa as well.

What's the point of ECL or EL, if we're gonna go in half hearted like we always do.
We threw away ECL this year. I only want us to be in EL as a trophy winner. then we can embarrass ourselves as normal, at least we'll have won some silverware in the process.
In the 60s 70s and 80s, Europe was a big adventure. We tried hard in every competition.
Now apparently only the CL matters, depressing.

I think the club should be nominated for a comedy award certainly gives us a laugh but creates a winning culture.?

Because we are Tottenham Hotspur, we should be playing in Europe, we should be looking to win it, and a club with one trophy in 21 years is not too billy big bollocks to be in it. Maybe we are not good enough to qualify for it, maybe we won't be good enough when we are in it, but we should at least try to be in it, if we can.
Also European trips to the likes of Maribor, Salonika, Donetsk, Shamrock, Prague, Braga are always much better trips than to Barcelona, Milan, Madrid

Also we are meant to be getting rid of quite a few so maybe the attitude in club may change towards competition

Agreed 100%. We keep poo-pooing the EL and ECL but these are European tournaments that we should be aiming to win. Simple at that. If we qualify for the EL or ECL next season then we should absolutely go in the with the mentality that we are going in to win it

I don't look at the league, I don't pay attention to form. I'm not much fun really.

But NO game is more important than our next one, no matter what competition it's in, or where we sit in the league.

We (in my opinion) should always play our strongest possible team, in hope of winning that game.

Winning needs to become a habit, rather than a thing we get to enjoy every now again.

Just my opinion.

That’s pretty much my view to a point but you can’t play the same 11 for 70 games a season so there has to be a certain amount of rotation

Team vs Leeds

Hugo
Romero - Dier - Davies
Royal - Winks - PEH - Reguillon
Kulusevski - Kane - Son

Team vs Boro (FA Cup)

Hugo
Sanchez - Rodon - Davies
Doherty - White - Winks - PEH - Sessegnon
Lucas - Bergwijn

Conte ruled out Skipp and Bentancur, so I'm mentally prepared to see WInk and PEH on Saturday and next week. Also, I can't see him trying Lucas or Stevie as RWB in either game ( though he should try to switch RWB's for the FA Cup game ) so it will have to be the return of Doherty in the FA cup game.

As the man said “It’s magnificent to be in Europe, and this club – a club like Tottenham Hotspur – if we’re not in Europe…. we’re nothing. We’re nothing.”
Bit extreme but Sir William Nicholson was the beating heart of our club and his words still resonate.

So many fine words about Europe, but what happens when we get ECL or EL. Embarrassment that's what.
So until we change our attitude I won't be getting excited about qualifying for these competitions via the League.
Yep, I want us to beat Leeds, but nowhere as much as beating Boro.
Rest, rotate, recuperate, save our big guns for Tuesday.

Switch White to Kane on FA Cup and reckon you have likeliest XIs. Could be Dier instead of Rodon too?

SW, you know I only ever try to be honest, polite etc etc.

You're basically saying you'd rather we don't qualify for ECL/EL because it's embarrassing for you if/when we lose?

I find the fact that Winks and PEH will very likely be starting in midfield to be quite depressing.
as long as we keep seeing hojbjerg as one of the first names on the team sheet I don’t see us doing anything. he’s fine as a squad player but people wanting him as our captain just baffle me

4 out injured plus a 3rd GK from squad of 22 means 3 academy on bench with Bergwijn as only attacking senior sub. Left ourselves ridiculously light of options. No way all 4 of Dele Ndombele Lo celso Gil should have gone. 3 yeah but not all 4 without another replacement. We let 4 players with attacking ability go and brought in 1.
