I admire the confidence " we got this " without our big hitters smacks of either overconfidence or arrogance or disrespect .
One of the reasons we have not won in Europe since the eighties is when in the European competitions we treated them with respect .
For many years we had missed out on Europe it is really only the last ten years that we have been in Europe on a regular basis and were praying to qualify .before then and we were jealous of the clubs in Europe as we hardly ever finished high enough in the league or won a domestic cup and qualify . Now we are in Europe albeit the second tier people are talking about resting our main players .
I ask are we serious about winning the Europa cup or just playing lip service I think I speak for more than just myself you must play all your best players if fit try to get a decent lead then if you want to after 70 or so minutes rest players .
I have said on here before one of the reasons Liverpool have had a relatively poor season is that in the last two months they have been resting their best players then falling behind and then bringing them on in the tail end of the game to try to rescue things .
It just does not work . Start with your best when winning or if winning rotate iis the first option
Start without your best players then bring them on at the end is the second option . For me the second option just does not work often enough. We are not in a position where we can afford to disrespect the opposition and or the competition .

It’s not about confidence, no players are gonna survive this season if you don’t rest them, and potentially you could be ruining them for next season too.

With Jose stating he will make changes for this game, I think we'll see

Hugo
Tanganga - Sanchez - Dier - Davies
Sissoko - Ndombele
Bergwijn - Lamela - Dele
Kane

I think this is our best chance of getting into the CL, so I hope Jose goes strong, as strong as possible.

I’m guessing:

——————Lloris
Doherty—Sanchez—Dier—Davies
———Sissoko—Ndombele
Bale————-Dele————-Son
——————Kane

Not sure I agree on 2 counts. Bookies don’t agree on your first statement (we are around 3/1 to finish top 4 and 9/2 to win the Europa), and even if you think it’s closer than that we have to manage our resources to try to win both. I would play a hybrid team to try and put the tie to bed, but we are better than Zagreb and need to be fielding a strong fresh team for the NLD on Sunday

Centre backs and keeper run the least so I would want Toby sanchez and lloris playing again.

Kane Son Tanguay to start and come off by 60

The other 5 can be padded out with players that won't start Sunday

I expect to see a full strength starting XI tonight.

Jose will want to put this tie to bed, rest until Sunday, and then have a full week's rest for the first XI until the Villa game.

So that means smashing DZ tonight. The players will be able to cope with a mediocre DZ and then a NLD in 4 days, followed by a week off.

We're also at home, so that gives us an extra bit of recovery time, etc, before Sunday.

Arsenal are also playing tonight and they've a tricky game against Olympiakos who are no mugs. Given they look like finishing mid table and outside of the European spots the Europa is also going to be very important to them.

Zagreb are also a decent team, yes we should beat them but to make sure we do we need to be fielding a strong side.

Or it could well be that we are in a season where players are having to play 3 games (or more) in 7 days constantly throughout the whole season and we are still pushing for the top four. The squad is there for a reason and some of the players not starting right now are actually very good.

I mean you could start the strongest 11 tonight but then would you play that strongest 11 against arsenal, most probably not so you have to have a balance. Rest a few, bring in a few who are competing for places and if need by bring on some of the strongest players if needed. There is a reason why hojbjerg is being rested. This is one hell of a hard season.

I'd rather win this, than finish top 4.

However, we cannot put our eggs in one basket. Jose has to find the right balance, in terms of team selection.

Hopefully the extra subs affords us to go strong and bring players off at the right time.

I'd rather go strong in this, a home tie, than end up chasing a difficult result in Zagreb. Hopefully we can bring some of the big guns off around 60 mins.
