Would love to see Ahmed get a chance. If Stokes is genuinely not worried about the run rate for the spinner then he could be a lot of fun.
Jack Carson would be an interesting and brave pick. Something our new setup don’t mind doing

Ahmed’s a leg spinner so he’s not a replacement for Leach and wouldn’t play every test

Please not Bess ffs

Both turn the ball away from the right handed batsmen, but agree in the sense that an off-spinner would offer more control, if BazBall cares about that sort of thing. Can see Root getting through a few overs tbh. I'd rather Root bowled than Bess!

Was thinking of going down to the Oval for the World Test Championship Final between India and Australia. I finish work a bit early and in the past have got in at a reduced price for the last session but doubt that's going to happen. Tickets are going at £80 and Friday and Saturday are sold out already.

I also think it's a travesty that there is not a test match happening at all in August. The one whole month where schools are off and there's absolutely no red ball cricket. Not even county championship games for the players who aren't involved in the Hundred. The England players will probably still pull out of the Hundred after the Ashes is over anyway.

I think quite a few of us on here have said about how ridiculous the scheduling is this summer, just so they can squeeze in this poxy hundred nonsense.

I still don't understand the need for the format other than purely to make money and to try and sell it abroad. I don't think it does anything for the game, if anything its taking away from the T20 blast and the50 over cup is dying a death.

Looks like they’ve approached Moeen but he’s unsure if he can handle the physicality of it these days

looks like it's Mooen (if he says yes). I like him, he was solid for England, but can't help this feels like a backwards step.

Still, having Mo coming in at 8 isn't too shabby!

Would love it if Moeen agrees to come back..
He can be an attacking bowler and add some momentum with the bat and in the field if needed

Root and Mo have worked well in tandem before.
As for the ECB "alienating players"
If they're not good enough (which it's pretty clear the selectors think Is the case) then perhaps they should focus on getting better

I didn't watch much of the Ireland game at all, and barely following the County Championship; did Tongue have a bit about him? Sharp enough?

not sure. 5 wickets v Ireland doesn't tell us much, plus he's hardly set Div 2 alight. he's got pace, but not extreme consistent pace like Mark Wood.

I think the real pace guys in the English game are all a bit FUBAR'd, none of them can stay fit. We seem to top out at about 85mph otherwise.
