England are getting well and truly bazballed by India
We need to buck the trend of allowing the tail to wag pretty much every single time we bowl.We keep picking up wickets just as they look to be getting away,, just about hanging in
Two decent spinners plus Root, not our lot, clear gulf between the two.Hindsight is wonderful but 2 spinners plus root was probably enough. That said it doesn’t look to be a 250 all Out wicket

But equally, if they can't take wickets at a decent economy in India, where can they do it! lolOur pool of spinners to choose from isn't exactly overflowing and we've picked with half an eye on the future, half an eye on potential and another half on availability. That's three halves
Given the lack of experience between them it's hardly surprising that they've struggled. They'll sink or swim. Ahmed took 7 wickets in his first test match so he isn't a forlorn hope, this is his second game (I think) and given time and opportunity, he'll get better.
This is probably the toughest tour possible and an invaluable experience for young players.

Does he chew his chewing gum in the same obnoxious manner?? lolAhmed's 15 year old brother Farhan looks a bit good, if that's any consolation. Currently playing for the U19's in the World Cup.
It's interesting though. just listening to Talksport and Ramps was on talking about before the game Hartley was saying all you need to do is land it in a good spot in India and the wicket will do the rest.
It's clearly not that easy. If it was really easy to bowl spin in India, then India wouldn't have such a good home record. you still have to be a really good spinner to take advantage of conditions, and we just don't have any (yet).
Kind of has that feel but this is a different England who I’m sure will come out looking to clear the deficit as quickly as possible…… it could be either special or painfulwe're going to beaten inside 3 days aren't we.
Apart from a great innings by Pope, been pretty painful!Kind of has that feel but this is a different England who I’m sure will come out looking to clear the deficit as quickly as possible…… it could be either special or painful
I think Jimmy comes in for the next test. Even if we lose it sets a marker for the rest of the seriesThat’s a pretty remarkable knock from Pope and a respectable fight back from England. I think Foakes showed why he’s the perfect lower order batter for the brand of cricket England play. He knows how to stay in and build partnerships. Like Pope, he’s an excellent player of spin as well.
Unfortunately I think we’re likely an innings from Root short of putting up a competitive total. It seems like the wicket has gotten easier and easier to bat on as the test progresses. Our bowling line up is pretty shocking too. Still, I’ve seen this England team get absolutely blown away when chasing a first innings deficit so seeing some fight and grit is good.
I havent got a clue what the conditions will be like in the second test and beyond but with Root arguably being our best spinner, I see no need in having Hartley, Ahmed and Leach. I still wouldn’t be playing Hartley even if Leach is injured. I’d go with Lawrence as he can bowl the occasional off spin, Ahmed and Bashir if his visa nonsense gets sorted in time.
