Excellent innings from Jonny and really important. Nice contribution from Foakes too. No idea why it took so long to get him in. Test batsman and sound wicketkeeper.

If we can post a score around 300+, which we ought to do from here, then it's game on.

I do wonder about our selection of Overton instead of Mahmood having seen the swing on offer. It seems like this team is always being hampered by its selections. Having said that I'll reserve total judgement as Overton may well end up taking 5-fer and making me look stupid.

I'm not convinced Joe Root is in possession of a pair of balls, I think he's actually a weak captain.
Hence no Jimmy or Broady as he obviously feels threatened by them and doesn’t like being called out when he makes the wrong call on the field.
Fantastic batsman but the weakest skipper I’ve ever seen.

He needs to bowl himself more. Bat around 6 or 7 and field long leg or silly point

How long has this set up been treading water, at best!

I feel truly sorry for Root. Not only have we been almost cripplingly reliant on him to score the bulk of our runs, he's often out there very early as our openers fail over and over to see the shine off a new rock.
He took 5-fer on a fucking sandpit in India and now the selectors will crow bar any frontline spinner out of the team given half an opportunity and congrats Joe, you're now our frontline spinner for the match! We're sure you can manage that, it's not like you'll be in at 1st/2nd drop, then have to sort bowling changes, field placings, etc...

He's far from a natural leader, slow to identify patterns and trends in a match (he should really be given to him on a plate by the laptop chaps in the camp, and if he isn't then that's a massive failing above him...shock!), makes weird bowling changes at weird times (his decisions or pre-planned before the session starts?), but fuck me, he gets hammered from far and wide, it's actually now in danger of tainting his legacy as what will be the highest English run scorer of all time.

Ditch the captaincy, Joe, let someone else take some of the burden; it just isn't worth it.

So after all the debate about Jimmy and Broady not going surprise surprise we’ve now seen Robinson and Wood both break down already and we haven’t even started the first test, as predicted would happen by quite a few of us on here.
Never fear we can carry on running stokes into the ground until he breaks down as well which’ll leave us with the match winning opening combo of Overton and Woakes, perfect for an overseas tour.
Still scratching my head that Mahmood wasn’t bought in…

There's no need to declare, the traditional batting collapse will take care of that problem.
Nearly got the collapse...with our bowling (or lack of it) surprised they didn't wait til they got over 300 ahead before declaring
Watch one of the Windies batsmen score a quick 50 & then we will start panicking lol

sporting declaration that. only hope of getting wickets on this is dangling the carrot of the win and hope they play a few shots.
