Johnny Bairstow's "spirit of cricket"

with Sunak weighing in, it's just embarrassing at this point
Sunak will be "wading in" because as a cricket fan, he was probably asked about it.
He was on View From The Boundary at lunch the other day, so I would think he's commenting as an English cricket fan, rather than the bloody Prime Minister. 🙄

he literally tried the same thing as Carey

In what way is it "not the same"?

That's nonsense. Standing outside your crease deliberately is completely different to leaving your crease because you think the ball is dead. Trying to equivocate between the two is just laughable.

Labuschagne stands out of the crease on purpose in order to reach the ball earlier and give himself an advantage in playing the ball. Bairstow thinks the over has been called and is going for a chat with Stokes.

If you think the 2 events are the same you are either being willfully obtuse or you just don't understand cricket.

I've really hated the toxicity of this forum and have barely been posting over the last month.

the level of "debate" in this thread typifies that toxicity at its worst - just lots of aggressive and dismissive reactions with no explanation or constructive discussion - just aggressive put downs

Think. that's it for me for a while in this forum. it's just not worth participatig in

Sayonara folks

It has been explained. You just don't like the explanation.

You might be right that the internet in general is toxic at the moment.

But in this case, the only person not offering debate is you. Your best offering is to just quote someone and say "JFC".

The video has been posted before and people have explained why it's completely different.

You clearly haven't read those points otherwise you wouldn't have bothered to post the video again.

Bairstow didn’t ground his bat - you’re taught to do that at school and wait for it to be called over

it wasn’t called over

to suggest “they’re not the same” is not true

"Nothing like it"

JFC
Well, from what I can make of that clip, it was the wicky throwing down at the stumps because the batsman could have been out of his crease.
All pretty quick and in the same period of play.

It was quite obvious that at the end of the over, JB had tapped his bat, done a bit of gardening and wandered off for a chat with his partner.

Bairstow did reground himself in the crease. And he only left the crease because he thought the ball was dead. That is not the same as deliberately standing outside the crease to play the ball. Everyone who has played cricket knows this.

The Aussies are only pretending its the same to excuse their shitty behaviour.

Technically they are both stumpings yes, but that does not mean they are the same type of event.

Bairstow's quick, and single swipe of his crease with his foot from 20 yards back wouldn't have been obvious to Carey, who caught the ball and threw back in the same motion. It's not like he waited

Says the chap handing out neg reps to people with a different opinion to his on this.
If you can't take people disagreeing with you when you're trying to use an example that is completely different to the one being discussed, then get all snowflake about it, maybe this isn't the place for you mate.

The neg reps are there to be used if you disagree. Or are you suggesting no one should use them? I'm not using them any differently than anyone else

"Snowflake about it" - it's this kind of personalization that i really hate

It's possible to discuss without making assumptions or being personally insulting - "You obviously know nothing about cricket" is just one such example - that just makes the whole tenor of debate so unnecessarily unpleasant

Lol!

Then neither do Strauss or Nasser - they were both fine with it
They weren’t comparing that irrelevant clip

Enjoy your ‘break’

Yes, but Carey knew that Bairstow would only leave his crease there because he thought the ball would be dead. It's clever but shitty. And Cummings could still have called the batsman back or refused the appeal.

He could also have been honest about it after the game rather than hiding behind false equivalences and technicalities.
