My sister is a physio and can back this up. She's said it many times, to my shock. Said she would never work at a football club!Found this part quite surprising. You'd think given the amount of money in the game all the top clubs would have the very best of the best physios - it's not like they're on crazy money so shouldn't be that hard to get a team of elite physios, should it?
It surprises me that the bigger spending clubs don't do more of this. I mean there's a tonne of evidence that sauna usage, especially when combined with cold/ice baths and breathing techniques can be more effective at building cardio strength than any physical exercise, so you would imagine all clubs would be massively into this - high cardio with non physical strain would result in a lot less injuries. However whilst cold/ice baths are a thing, as is the cold room thing, it doesn't seem to be used in conjunction with saunas for cardio purposes from what i've seen. Also clubs like Spurs penny pinch all over the place. It's nuts to think that investing a few million £ every year would probably repay itself in a higher league finish, but in all likelihood the club simply will see this as a cost rather than a cost with an ROI.Found this part quite surprising. I go to a physio in Harlow that I assume some of the players use, he also does a few local celebs (like Rod Stewart). I don't think they (there's more than one person working there) are officially affiliated with the club, but there's photos of them with some players in the lobby area.it's random ITK time -
as i've said somewhere on here before, football has left me with a few injuries that i'm slowly getting long-term fixes for. this has lead me to a really darn good physio whom also privately treats a number of chelsea players - and a few spurs ones.
our interesting chat today was about the use of gyms at football clubs. Physios think they are vital for recovery and prevention of injury. if you have an issue / fix he believes in overloading that muscle/tendon/area with weight to increase bloodflow and make the area stronger than ever. Sadly, it seems, football clubs do not. Many football managers believe an hour in the gym is an an hour that is better spent on the field getting better technically or tactically. As footballers are not powerlifters they see anything over bodyweight as a waste of time.
To that affect: Sarri closed the gym at chelsea, lampard said it was optional, and conte keeps it open, but you go at your own will outside of allocated time. Conte believes in hard sprints at the end of the sessions which are peferect if your in good health (shocks the muscles, stretches tendons) but is damaging if you have niggles. Said conte and mouriho were big on getting players to play at 80% and not really letting them recover. Also that club physios are generally a bit shite, do what they are told, and are usually failed players rather than industry pro's. Hence a lot of players sneak off and get their own physios at the request of their agents.
Two players in specific were mentioned (out of interest more than anything). Ruben loftus cheek is so worried about how chelsea are not letting his achillies recover that he's asked his agent to move to another london club. aparently he needs a few months of strength training (which means he can't run much) but chelsea are refusing. he can't even stand on his tip toes on his left leg and the moment and is 'running from his hips rather than his calves'.
also that dele is an absolute machine. he posts huge energy metrics via his muscles and is in great shape. that said, he's very worried about him as he had a messed up childhood. really thinks he needs help, but is a lovely boy.
take all of that with a pinch of salt, but i thought it was interesting. and for those who are concerned i need to have my plantarus? removed.
Proper giggled at this. Thank you.Good Ebenidign
AG in his article says the club has been tracking Lucas Paqueta.
Would be a quality signing - but certainly wouldn't come cheap.
I was wondering if we would get linked to him at some point. Always thought Paratici would be a fan.AG in his article says the club has been tracking Lucas Paqueta.

I wonder if we could do a deal for this guy and Koulibaly from Napoli which would fit in with the two horses heads clue from ValYid recently?Key Alasdair Gold bits:
Spence
football.london understands that there is expected to be developments in the next 72 hours in the race to sign Spence with a line of suitors ready to make their move as his international break with the England U21s comes to an end on Monday night.
Spence is understood to be attracted by the opportunity to play Champions League football, something that Tottenham and Dortmund can offer next season. football.london understands though that Spence is not keen on moving to a big club only to be loaned out elsewhere and instead wants to fight for a regular spot in the side he does move to.
Zabarnyi
There is also 19-year-old Ukraine international centre-back Ilya Zabarnyi. football.london understands that Spurs have been closely watching the highly-rated Dynamo Kyiv teenager and are weighing up a summer move for him. The right-footer can play on either side of the defence but does have a long-term deal with his side after signing a five-year deal last October.
Dier & Davies
Both players could be in line for new contracts in the months ahead as they approach the final two years on their deals after impressing this season.
Mckennie:
football.london revealed back in January that Spurs' managing director of football had held talks with the players' representatives about a potential move in that window but it was deemed too difficult with the Italian club unwilling to part company with him at that point. The American is believed to have been above Bentancur on Spurs' target list for new recruits that month.
Paratici is expected to make another approach for the versatile Texan, who was a regular starter for Juventus until a metatarsal injury all but ended his campaign.
Ward-Prowse
football.london understands that Tottenham had all but agreed a move for Ward-Prowse three years ago but did not pull the trigger and now he is worth more than four times as much.
Other CMs
Tottenham have also been looking elsewhere in the Premier League with Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma a player the club have long been tracking, while further afield Spurs retain an interest in 24-year-old Lille midfielder and Portugal international Renato Sanches, but he looks set for a move to AC Milan.
Tottenham have also held discussions internally about the prospect of bringing Christian Eriksen back to north London, with Brentford keen to keep him as well as other suitors eyeing up the 30-year-old Serie A winner. Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has also been a player Spurs have monitored for years and they will be watching his situation this summer with Arsenal also keen on bringing him to the capital.
Attacking Midfield
football.london understands that Spurs have been tracking Lyon's Brazil international Lucas Paqueta, a player Newcastle tried to sign earlier this year.
When it comes to homegrown options, Tottenham have long held an interest in Leicester star James Maddison, having considered signing him before his move to the Foxes and he is now in the last two years of his contract.
In keeping with the homegrown theme, Tottenham also watched 21-year-old Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson last season as he scored 19 goals and laid on nine assists for the Championship outfit and the Wales international was also playing up front at times as they earned promotion. That promotion could ensure that the young attacker remains in Nottingham for a little while longer despite plenty of interest in acquiring his services.
Osimhen
football.london understands another striker on Spurs' radar is 23-year-old Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, who has netted 18 goals in 31 matches for Napoli this season. Tottenham considered the Nigerian back when he was in Ligue 1 in Lille and he would now come with a big fee after impressing in Italy.
It wasn't two horses.I wonder if we could do a deal for this guy and Koulibaly from Napoli which would fit in with the two horses heads clue from ValYid recently?
Hate to be ‘that guy’, but any chance we can move the physio chat to elsewhere? Not transfer related in any way and keeps getting my hopes up of news when I refresh (sure I’m not the only one)! Ta muchly! ?
Not a link. Clicked it 4-5 times before copping on.Zabarnyi is excellent.
The second CH, as he is right footed? Good investment for the future. Can let Sanchez go.Zabarnyi is excellent.
