I am a bit disappointed with that loan. I would have thought Palace or even Villa would have taken a punt on him.
They probably would've, but he's much more likely to get match time in the championship, which has got to be better for his development than sitting on the bench at villa/palace

one or 2 things may happen yet....(outs and ins)
some things are near but not near enough to discuss.(assuming i will anyway)
Over the next day or so things should become clearer.

I'd suggest several things going on - and these are some of the reasons :

1. Arsenal trying to spend money on a cm and wing forward.....similar to us, so we may need time to see who they are going for and adjust targets if necessary

2. We know we need to get players out - buts its probably 2 or 3 out of a possible 10, so we don't want to leak names too early. And there may be several possible destinations for some clubs so we do not want the competing clubs to know about each other atm in order to get the best deal

3. There's an important match tonight, so we do not want to divert any of the players in that squad away from the match - hence the 24 hours blackout on itk which JJ is suggesting

4. Re MS, it may be important to Southampton to get a player or two in - so the identity of the players being discussed (not just AT) may need to be secret to ensure our bid is prefrred by Southampton over an all cash bid

So does this mean that the players we see tonight are expected to be our squad options?

If Townsend were to move on for, say, 12 million, our academy in the last two years would have given us over £30 million in income, when you factor in the Livermore, Caulker, Smith, Dawkins and Luongo sales. That's a Lamela, or 2.5 Eriksen's.

That is seriously impressive, and shows the benefits of good youth coaching/facilities, even if the players aren't at the level required to play for Spurs. Odds are though, that we'll get one or two through who are, in the next few years.

Well yes and no. If several clubs are in for the same player, it couldn't hurt to signal that they are not alone in their interest. However, you hardly want the press/fans to know which names are heavily linked to transfers, should a sought after player end up staying, it's better that the interest is left unknown.

The players left out tonight will have their cards well and truly marked.

Its a squad game.

Most of the players involved in the squad tonight I'd suggest are likely not to be in Poch's first choice team but a few will be over the course of the season through injuies to others etc.

I'd also guess that for one or two of the players tonight, this may be their last game for Spurs although if negoatiations are well advanced they may not be involved in the game.

But our total squad at the moment is just under 30 players so some may not be involved - simply because we have so many players

Aren't Middlesbrough playing some decent football under Karanka now?

Probably a decent move all things considered.

Add the value of Kane and Bentaleb (in a few years time) into that and it suddenly looks v.impressive indeed. Hope we don't sell them, but they're both worth a lot.

RE: ITK - Didn't JJ say he'd be revealing some names that rhymed with team names today? That's gonna be funny. All ITK pointing towards a couple more deals, I would guess MS and Welbeck tbh.

DiMarzio suggested that the decisions about the squad and which players to leave out vs. QPR were dictated by the transfer window. Dawson was out of the squad, and true enough, was sold.

I've never been convinced how much DiMarzo really knows - he has some contacts with Italian league clubs but his hit rate on info is t as much as it should be with the info he claims to know. The generality that squad composition is influenced by TW's is correct but, its not always a 1 to 1 correlation

We've done some good business imo. But then I think, for the most part, we've always done good business.

Playing personel have never been our problem per sé, the coaching of players we have has though.

Poch will get the maximum out of this squad, and for that reason I've been pretty relaxed about the season ahead and who we've signed and who we'll sell.

Feels like we have got our Tottenham back.

I read JJ's statement as quite the opposite, seeing it as being that there are some players that will be playing tonight who may be sold before the window closes. It's best to not have them know so before hand, as their heads would be truly out of the game.
