I don't like the way that article says "Baldini is believed to be ready to offer his resignation as director general of the Italian club after two poor seasons"...

Surely, judging by the list of players he purchased, that were in an article that was posted on here the other day, he himself did OK? Would the team itself failing not be down to the manager? Or was he Baldini's choice too?

I'm in such desperate need of new ITK that I'd get excited over a bid for Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink right now, to be honest.

Re the Benteke (and Defoe) story in the paper...

Can't our Belguim boys put in a good word, maybe a game of poker and few bottles of Leffe with Verts and Mousa - maybe Jonathan Blondel could pop by for old times sake (just don't tell Townsend I suppose!)

Maybe Nico Claesen could poke his nose in every few hours to make sure things dont get out of hand.

Baldini is usually right with choosing the right players - all those Lamelas, Osvaldos, Marquinhos's make Roma a very strong team. In managers department however he made some poor choices. In '11 right after Barca thrashed United in CL Final he appointed Luis Enrique, so that a Barca man can make a Barca v2.0 in Rome. In reality it was like Blaugrana struggling with hangover, they played some good matches, but on the other hand they were pretty average throughout the season and rightly so, Enrique was sacked.
Then, they discovered that their former manager Zdenek Zeman made it to Serie A with a average side Pescara and with pressure from the fans, Baldini appointed Zeman as coach. Plus, a year ago there were not many managers available. AVB was free, but he wanted to stay in England, which proved to be great for him and Tottenham. So, Roma were struggling with their average results made by good players.
Lack of european football for two years in a row is too much for Roma and the main reason behind this is making wrong managerial decisions.

I'm completely indifferent as to whether I want Baldini or not. If AVB thinks its a good idea then I'm fine with it, as long as we as a club do not repeat the mistakes made previously under the same structure.

As regards to Leandro, I really hope we get him finally. We've been able to get long term targets for good value previously such as Ade, Verts and Sandro. The only gripe I have is we're dealing with a club who we've supposedly got a 'partnership' with so all the oneupmanship makes the value of our partnership seem limited to say the least.

2.30 in the afternoon and there are only 6 pages, I guess it's another slow news day.

Am interested though, what effect a new DOF would have this summer on transfers,I would hope at this stage we would already have a specific list of possible transfers as it will take time for a DOF to be brought up to speed with the squad, positions needed, type of system AVB uses etc. all of which are integral in determining the type of players we need. I would imagen it wouldn't be till Janurary that we would see any Baldini transfers happening even if he arrives with a list..... If we have already made plans for this window.... If not.... Things could go very wrong.

The problem with a number of our targets is that they will have a huge showcase event at the Confederations Cup in a few weeks. In some instances, this will drive their prices up. I've been harping for 12 months now that we should make signing Keisuke Honda one of our top priorities. He'd be our Modric and Van der Vaart replacement wrapped up in one, while instantly being the a massively marketable player at the club (perhaps even more so than Bale in the near term). He's a better footballer than Kagawa, a bigger star in Japan, and he's going to have a fantastic Confederations Cup in Brazil. His contract at CSKA is about up, and the only teams interest in him are no better than us, if not worse.

Damiao may be the exception, insofar as he may not see huge opportunities at the upcoming international tournament. Scolari has shown a preference for Fred, who is scoring goals for them. If that's the case, it'll make deriving a larger fee from teams more difficult, and may give us a chance in signing him. Even still, I think our focus should remain on Negredo and Soldado. Negredo is massively underrated around here, and would be a huge hit for us, but Del Nido and Levy doing a deal seems far-fetched to me.

Two things, firstly the Japanese market isn't that big, secondly you do realise that having a Japanese player won't make us more popular in any other Country other than Japan right?

Well if the World Cup in South Africa was anything to go by we should have a couple of Brazillians in before Rio.
Lets just hope they are better players than Pienar and Khumalo.

The Leandro vibes are sounding all too familiar. If the ITK is to be believed then my gut feeling is both Inter and Leandro's agent/s will continue to piss us about, waiting for a club with deeper pockets to come along. Until that time I get the feeling that Leandro is in no rush to leave and they are prepared to play the waiting game.

I hope I'm wrong but it wouldn't surprise me if we get the inevaitable "its complicated" line soon.

Which begs the question, why are still going after this guy? Being burnt twice hasn't made us learn our lesson it seems.

Probably because our scouts and management think that he would be the perfect striker for us.

I do agree that it's strange that we're so obsessed with Damiao despite there being no clear evidence that he's worth the hassle.

Having said that it's clear that we have other irons in the fire (which I'm not sure was the case before) so there's no harm in still trying to get it done if the club rates him.

I'm pretty sure every transfer window I've read ITK that says we have many irons in the fire but at the end of window, we don't end up taking one of those irons out.
