27m!!! Fuck that, keep what we've got. Stick the money on griezman. Simples. Or ever benega. Isn't he available for 7m?? Hope we are not even thinking of spending more than 15m on him.

He's 6 feet as far as I know. It sounds like nitpicking, I know, but margins are of quite some importance. A few centimetres might make all the difference. In other words, just as tall as Chiriches. IMO, the kid is primarily a CB. That doesn't change the fact that we need some good signings, and juicy CB-ITK soon. (y)

And Chiriches won just 46% of his aerial duels last season, significantly worse than Dawson, Kaboul and Vertonghen.

Puyol was only 5'10 and he was pretty good. Cannavaro was 5'9 playing at a time when football was even more physical, and he's considered one of the best defenders ever.

Is Lovren really worth 20m? Wow it's obscene. What would Sir Ledley be worth now?

A few weeks back, when some people were going, "£30m TV money! We're going to spend, spend, spend!" I suggested that Levy wouldn't deviate from the policy he's operated since ENIC took over, and that anyway player price inflation would mean it wouldn't go anything like as far as they imagined. "No! You're so wrong!" they cried.

If someone had suggested last summer that Lallana, Shaw and Lovren would go for a cool £70m-odd (or one Luis Suarez) he'd have been called a nutter. Yet here we are.

And yet against the likes of Lukaku, he pretty much had him in his pocket last season. Sometimes a defender just needs to do enough and be intelligent enough to ensure that the header isn't accurate either as a shot or knockdown and then win the second ball.

All the same, it's not a statistic I feel particularly comfortable with, and I wonder if some of these hints we've had about Vlad aren't down to a concern about his aerial ability. Remember Ricardo Rocha? He was a very neat defender on the deck, and much underrated on here, but he really struggled in the air. It's not entirely down to height—Micah Richards is only 5'11" and has a terrific jump, or at least did—but by and large I'd say being well over 6' is a hell of an advantage for a CB in the EPL.

Yeah I agree. I don't think Veljkovic' problem is his height, he's just not a physical player. Doesn't appear to be much of a jumper either. Very much needs to get into the weight room if he's going to make it in the Prem, rather than hoping to eek out another centimeter or two.

He will end up playing defensive midfield good on the ball calm and can put a tackle in

Lets not rip one of the kids to bits just yet eh, milos is just starting out and maybe would hope for some encouragement. Theres been far too much rhetoric regarding how monumentally turd every other defender is/has been..... I dont get to the lane as much as id like to but ffsis it like this in the ground, everybody is ripped to shreds and castigated because they dont measure up to ledley? Heres a thought for you...... spurs have been so fortunate in the past that we had, firstly sol, a world class performer who made average look good by his presence. Sol did the unthinkable, we all hated him for it, rightly so, but we got lucky cos we unearthed an even better player in his place. Ledley was that good that whoever was at the side of him looked awesome as well.....think back....lee young pyo, bassong, anthony gardner, dawson, even ginger pele...... now our run of luck has ended sadly, but there are too many on here lacking the self knowledge to realize they are measuring our current crop against a true great.

?...blimey think my underpants are a bit too tight or summat...apologies if this makes your tits explode with anger.

He's only bloody 18. No player is fully developed physically by that age. I'd much rather a player with technical ability at 18 who needs to bulk up than a physical freak with an awful first touch.

Pointing out that he might be on the short side for a CB is ripping him to bits? Fucking ding-dong.

just preempting the inevitable way the merits and traits of the lad will be over analysed, apologies maybe a tad overstated on my part... would rather he stayed under the radar to some degree

£20 from me, for keeping me mildly saner than normal in the silly season. And also letting me sound knowledgeable with my Yid mates. To get the goss before mainstream media, lets me sound prescient. If only they knew about A&C's butt plug and dwarf obsessions:whistle:
