Sorry, but he was not worth £27m.

But the Club has evidently been in negotiations with Southampton over Schneiderlin for several weeks. Maybe even months.

Surely an executive worth his salt would have been able to suss out what was and was not possible some time ago?

That's why they kept fouling him then is it...
Haha don't be so blinkered! He was class against qpr and shite yesterday, he was fouled a couple of times but more often than not out muscled and out witted. Gerrard nicked it off him numerous times coz he knew which way he was going to go, I too knew which way he was going to go from the Paxton !!!

Trix's ITK has pretty much summed up my theory as to why we had a quiet day today. Didn't want to buy for the sake of buying. My only concern is how available these players will be in Jan or even next summer. I worry that J Rod and Schneiderlin, the 2 he desperately wants, may end up going to bigger clubs if they continue having successful careers at Southampton.

In what way is one signing, which would even the balance sheet for this summer bankrupt the club or bring us outside of the FFP rules? Seriously, explain that one to me mate because that makes less sense than Man Utd signing 9 left backs.

Happy to be corrected - but do we have 27m? I didn't think we did?

He can coach players, which is the main reason we employed him. The fact that he's happy to work with what he has is logical. We were never going to sell everyone, I don't think anyone expected that, but I think most of us expected one of Lennon or Andro to go and a better option to come in. That didn't materialise, which is a kick in the teeth as I don't think Lennon at 28 can improve his game and I don't think Townsend possesses the brain cells needed to follow tactical instructions.

Agree with your assessment of those two - but did we ever have bona fide buyers for them?

Brinkmanship? Frequently happens with us.

I must ask the ones that believe we did a good window:

Do you really think that we're ambitious enough? Even if we had gotten MS and JR for 10m£ more than their worth, would'nt our chanses for a top 4 spot increased greatly?

Maybe that's a bet moneywise, but if achieved we would have profited. To dare is to do.

Maybe Poch is happy with our current squad, but I would rather se him happier with it ;)

The two from Southampton had the problem of Southampton selling 5 of their first team players in about 2 weeks. They had to take a stand. Be it shit timing from us as I feel we should have gone in as soon as we knew Poch was our manager.

That's fair, but at the rate at which they were hemorrhaging their players off, I don't think we could have predicted them to suddenly close the gate like that. We also needed to move players out first as we don't have the ability to just hold on to piles of players and keep them happy as the CL clubs do, nor can we afford to let those highly paid players simply rot on our bench soaking up salary.

People have to understand, we're at a bit of an unusual, and somewhat unfortunate, juxtaposition: we're big enough and offer desirable wages enough such that quality players are happy to come to us, but not big enough such that they're willing to stay if not seeing choice playing time. Unfortunately that forces us to tread much, much more carefully in the transfer windows.

I'd read Trix's latest post for how I see it. Poch has not been Levyed at all. That probably suits your agenda though.
Tbf trix himself said poch didn't want Townsend. If that's the case and we had bids from Southampton why didn't he get sold? Odd.

Only allowed 23 senior players in our Premier League squad,
due to few home grown players.
Two players will miss out - most likely Khumalo and Assou-Ekotto though.

Well God love those who sit next to you. Try supporting the team next time you decide to go. Might feel good about yourself, might help the team rather than hearing moaning from the idiots. And if you don't want to fork out 120 to go see Spurs give up your ticket. There are plenty of fans who would pay in excess of that to actually support the team.

Sorry for OT post. Back on topic, I think we've done ok. No last minute excitement, as of yet, but Trix post about Poch being happy is good enough for me to end the night on.

You have absolutely no idea how I am at a game not that's its relevant to having our eyeballs out again...

I live in some small hope that a takeover is coming...and its slightly more tolerable than being 16000th on the waiting list...

Hold on, we now have people even suggesting Poch didn't want Stambouli?

Jesus this international break couldn't come at a better time for some folks. I'ma go sniff a flower for some of you.

I didn't realise you were our accountant. How much did we have then?

And no we didn't, which just shows how poor they are.
