Just an FYI on this as I keep getting asked about it.
This has been ongoing for nearly 3 months. I see the press are acting like we have just made our interest known, this deal has been being negotiated for a while. Player has 12 months to go on a contract- we are not his only option, however with Neymar now confirmed and another forward to go into the club- player is available. This is not 'new' news.
If this can be concluded- Daniel will deserve a lot of personal credit.

Seems like we had done all we could then as well. Not really sure what else 'Franco' could have done, but he's obviously done more 'good work on the deal'.

Pisses me off when people say they don't rate Townsend, clearly made no effort to watch him at QPR. He bullied so many LB's it's unreal, if he gets first team exposure he will be a big hit for us.

Erm. No I didn't. I just answered a question. I didn't compare him to Villa.

Would everyone be happy going into the season with our current squad and the additions of Villa and Paulinho, or would we expect one or two more signings?

Yes, would really improve our starting 11, plus we'd be welcoming back Kaboul and Sandro into the fold. Id still expect another couple to follow. If we can wrap up these 2 early doors, keep Bale then the rest of the summer will be very very exciting. We arent far away from challenging imo.

Good point, that's true, and David Villa would be class, give everyone a buzz.
Van Persie is 29-30 and won the league for United last season.
We're at a level now where all we need to do is tinker with the team a little bit, add one or two, that's all.
It wasn't so long ago, we had to make wholesale changes every fucking Summer! Themz the days.. Glad they're gone

I agree! Lets hope Sandro can return to full fitness and doesn't struggle with injuries. The same with Kaboul! Two monster players for us but both with horrible injuries that could end careers.

If we can sign Villa and Paulinho we will have a very strong spine to the team. Lloris, Kaboul, Vert, Sandro, Paulinho, Villa. Those 6 need to start every match if possible to give us a good chance of staying near the top. Obviously Bale will be in the team and personally i'd never leave out Dembele if he's 100% fit and not carrying an injury.

So that's 8 fantastic players that IMO could play for any team in the world.

If we can replace BAE and maybe add 1 more quality attacking/creative player then i honestly believe we can push near the top.

I don't rate Townsend

And he's had first team exposure although admittedly not much. It's one thing playing and playing well for one of the worst teams to ever hit the EPL, but to come back and do it for us, where the pressure and expectation to deliver is much, much higher, is another. If he comes back and does that, i'll review my onions and be happy to be proven wrong.

And it's nice to see the thread being used for purpose. I think ITK is going to start picking up pace soon. And about time too.
