This is Rashford's first call up, which suggests he's at the bottom of the pecking order, but to call an 18 year old up to a provisional Euros squad, only to chop him a couple of weeks later, would be an outrageously irresponsible thing to do.

Either include him in the squad or don't include him at all.

Hodgson said that rashford would train with the team to have the experience of being around the England set up but wouldn't be going to the euros

I don't really get it. If we are 1-0 down with ten to go I'd rather see Andy Carroll come on than Marcus Rashford. Just seems a bit soon for him.

At least our lads made it.

Heard on the radio that Hodgson is toying with Stones or Alli to play the deep lying midfielder role so he can get Barkley and Wilshere in the starting XI.

Some things never change with England, round pegs in square holes

So , any ideas on how Wilshere, Alli and Barkley will all fit together ?

I wouldn't pick Wilshere. One because I think he as a person is a prick and two because he's been injured all season. But then again, I wouldn't pick Delph or Drinkwater, either, but acknowledge the latter has had a good season. I would pick Carrick, though. Such a shame so many managers seem unable to incorporate him.

Hopefully the ones to drop out will be Wilshere and Delph (along with Rashford who is anyway). I assume this will be Rooney's last tournament? And we look seriously thin at centre back if those three are all we can muster.

Right. I still think that's the wrong thing to do. He's 18, there are innumerable meaningless international friendlies in the football calender to give him experience. Why fuck about with a major tournament squad?

At least he hasn't gone full Sven, and given him a place in the squad, without intending to play him, ala Walnut.

Still haven't forgiven him for ruining our only chance of World Cup glory.

Hate the man, that 5-1 win in Germany was the worst thing that could have happened to us under his tenure.

I like Rashford, I think if he can score against good teams in the Premier League for Utd, then he can probably score against international sides for England. There's no need to him include him now, though, as we have strikers who are playing at a higher level more consistently. I just don't think there's any need to be involving him at all at this point in time.

Feel sorry for JD really. He probably deserves a look in ahead of Rashford and Sturridge.

It'll be interesting to see what Roy does if Sturridge picks up an injury in the Europa League.

I personally think it's a good squad with good balance to it.

Happy to see Townsend in it, as he was very unlucky, due to injury not to get into the WC squad in 2014.

I personally think the squad offers balance, although I would have liked Andy Carrol in the squad as he's adds something different.

One gripe I do have is why do England repeatedly pick injured players. I can not once remember that gamble from working.

From Bryan Robson to Wayne Rooney, it's never worked.

Beckham was taken to the 2002 world cup despite injuring his metatarsal and was to blame for the opener against Brazil.

Micheal Owen at the 2006 World Cup, when he went down against Sweden, that was the end of any hopes of success.

Wayne Rooney, coming back from a metatarsal injury wasn't match fit, which led to him getting frustrated and getting himself sent off.

We've gambled on better players than Wilshere and failed.

My Team for England would be

Hart, Clyne, Rose, Cahill, Smalling, Dier, Milner, Rooney, Alli, Townsend and Kane.

I know Townsend seems like a strange inclusion but I think you need the right balance to the team, if you have creativity on on side, you need pace on the other and I feel Townsend has played better than Sterling since January.

Hogdson will probably pick Sterling as he seems a loyal type of coach.

Rashford has just been described on Talksport news as Manchester United's surprise package. Unfortunate timing after yesterday's events.

Because the premier league squads are stuffed to the gills with very average foreign imports leaving no squad places for English players. We buck the trend but even we have Fazio.

I'd have a limit on foreign players in the squad, say 10. The 3 foreigners rule never really helped us though so you can't have that little. Plus I think that would make the club's lazier at trying to bring talent through.

Im sorry but Townsend is not good enough and if I see him starting for England in a major tournament I will be very disappointed.

He's been in better form than Sterling and his squad place isn't under threat which tells you a lot.

Townsend normally plays well for England anyway but I'll be surprised if Woy takes him as he needs to cut the squad.

Townsend is an excellent international player. So direct and energetic. Unlike Sterling who in my opinion is stealing a living as a footballer.

As much as I do not really rate Townsend he does raise his game for England - Sterling is ridiculousy overrated also - having said all that Lallana or Sterling will start with Alli, Dier and probaby Wilshere with Rooney behind Kane

Townsend is probably not as technically gifted as Lallana or a few others who may go ahead of him, but he is a braver player whose directness and turn of pace is more likely to create something out of nothing than a lot of the England players are capable of. Also whilst others routinely freeze in an England shirt, Townsend has thrived on several occasions - he's this squad's Darius Vassell.

Good luck to him - based on recent form he deserves a spot in the 23.
