Really pleased for andros. This is what he really wanted and partly why he got so vexed at lack of Spurs time since he missed the wc through injury.

But what on earth is that fool doing picking Delph, and Wiltshire "

And Rashford over Defoe who is in super form right now, maybe more so than Kane and vardy.

England will always be a useless side when the people In charge make useless calls

Townsend is an excellent international player. So direct and energetic. Unlike Sterling who in my opinion is stealing a living as a footballer.

Sterling is very talented but he's been coasting for ages. Will be interesting to see what happens when Guardiola gives him a kick up the arse (because he will give every player in the squad one) if it kicks him into realising that potential or out of Man City as he can't handle it.

I can see why Hodgson has taken every one of the decisions tbh, even if I'm sad for JD not making it. He's already going to be taking Vardy and Kane for the front spot and has both Rooney and Sturridge who can play there, he needs more versatility than Defoe can offer from any other striker he may want to consider. Taking Wilshere in the Preliminary squad is probably with a view to assessing him for fitness, I'd not be at all surprised if he stays home when the cut is made given his lack of comparative playing time but Hodgson obviously thinks it's worth the risk. He's not blocked Barkley or Alli getting a call up who he'd surely be in competition with for a place (with Rooney at 10) so it's a judgement call in that respect.

The main reason i'm not keen on Wilshire in the squad is because he's a massive bellend.

But from a fitness perspective the only thing he's missing out on is game time and match sharpness. Both him and Henderson would have been nursed to full fitness by their respective clubs and probably have played a number of reserve game matches in the build up. There's no way either would have played on Sunday if they weren't fit, so with a bit of training and some time in the friendlies I don't see why they won't be ok for the tournament.

To me it's mainly down to the fact that Wilshire in particular has played next to nothing all season, his place in the squad seems undeserved when compared to others. And he's a bellend.

As much as I dislike West Ham, you could argue that one or two of their players should've been in the England squad. Noble, Antonio and Cresswell has been really good this season.

@Setzthree

Don't see the point of calling up Noble if you have Drinkwater and Antonio is an average player with power and heading ability, not worth the call up, it's not as if he'd add anything to England, Creswell you may have a case but you're splitting hairs between him and Bertrand, Bertrand has been apart of the international setup so again it's pretty pointless dropping him for a player who has no caps.

Also Wilshere is a bell end but he's a good player who can actually make a difference to England, he has key attributes that fit well at international level, I can see the logic from Roy tbh.

I'd be amazed if it isn't Townsend, Delph and Rashford omitted from the final squad. I'm not overly keen on Wilshere but I think his inclusion was inevitable if he managed a few minutes at the end of the season.

I don't know where Roy is going to fit all his faves in the XI, but I have no doubt he'll find a way to fuck this up with a young, hungry, energetic squad.

If we're going to give Hodgson the benefit of the doubt, then he might have called Wilshere and Henderson up to see their fitness first hand before deciding whether or not to take them in the 23 meaning one or both of those could be cut. I can't see him having any case to take Delph with him though unless both the aforementioned aren't fit enough. My starting line up would be:

Hart
Walker Cahill Smalling Rose
Dier Henderson
Alli
Sterling Kane Vardy

I don't rate Cahill but you can't trust Stones after the season he's had and I put Walker in over Clyne purely for the familiarity between him and Dier. What I expect Hodgson will do however is:

Hart
Clyne Cahill Smalling Rose
Dier Wilshere
Lallana Rooney Sterling
Kane

I personally think I should be Henderson or Wilshere, Rashford and Delph.

I can see good reason to take Townsend. Especially with players of the same nature (Sterling), haven't been in good form.

Townsend could set the tournament alight.

I know we don't rate him on this site but he does play with a lot of freedom with England and have seen an improvement at Newcastle, tactically and his awareness has improved.

Apparently Wilshere was awarded Man of the match in six out of seven Euro 2016 qualifying matches so it's easy to see why Hodgson wants him in the squad.

Saying that why do I suspect that the MOTM was decided by a public vote that was rigged by the Arseanl fans?

Actually I've just had a look and Joe Hart was actually voted MOTM by the public in the games against Estonia and San Marino.

My only issue with the inclusion of Wilshire is that he hasn't completed 90mins since Sept 2014. Putting all animosity and personality issues to one side he could actually work quite well in the Eriksen role and (if on form) could be the best fit alongside Dier & Alli in the middle of the park (Barkley is too selfish against a good defense and Lallana is, well, Lallana...)

Against the better team I'd like to see a midfield of:
-------Dier--Drinkwater----
Wilshire----Alli-----Sterling
----------Kane---------------

We haven't got good enough wingers to play 4-4-2 and stretch the play wide so we should be following the Spurs formula of targetted pressing and applying pressure in key central areas. High intensity gameplan and bring on Vardy & Barkley in second half to both run direct at tired defences to draw free-kicks in dangerous areas.

Unfortunatley I think we'l end up with:
-----------------Dier-------------
Milner------Henderson-----Alli
----------------------Rooney----
-----------Kane---------------------

Pressing will be too random with Rooney losing shape, Henderson being a headless chicken and leaving Dier exposed and taking the blame
