Can anyone shed a little more light regarding our policy on no statues! Has it been explained why we don’t have them. Sorry if it’s already talked about

What you say might be true, but was it really necessary to bring an anti-Enic agenda to a thread dedicated to the great Jimmy Greaves?
Suggest you look at my other posts o Jimmy to see how deep my feelings are regarding Jimmy

I’ve said a few times on here that I was one of the privileged few to be there at The Lane to see Jimmy score the greatest goal ever scored. I will never forget every tingling moment. Probably the most remarkable thing about the goal was the crowd response. It was far from the typical celebration - the whole crowd just stood and applauded Jimmy for several minutes. If only there had been cameras.
Was That the Leicester game in 1968 by any chance?

Talking Swedenglish -

I remember he was on the world cup commentary team back in the day. Think it was the game when Keegan and Brooking were going to be subbed on and England were in real trouble. Jimmy was hilarious. The other experts all gave their detailed analyses about the pros/cons of the subs, the gravity of the game and the risks. It all sounded very serious and desperate.

Came to Jimmy's turn to give his input on whether we should use those subs at this critical time. Jimmy, in that totally relaxed and casual style of his, as if his wife had just asked if she should add a couple more potatoes to the Sunday roast: "Yeah, why not? Bung 'em on. Can't hurt." End of analysis. He was a natural talent on and off the pitch.

Its worth pointing out that only the eleven that played got medals at the time to compound the frustration - he eventually did get one but not until 2009

Saw the great man score that unbelievable goal against mutd 5/1 to the lillywhites

I was there and I remember the whole crowd watched in disbelief as he ran through the defence and calmly stroked the ball into the net. Unbelievably, he scored a very similar goal against Leicester with Shilton in goal but there were no cameras there that day so, far as I know, there's no film of it. Such was the genius of our little maestro. Fans who never saw him play will never know what we had those long-gone days ago and I feel sorry for them.

I also saw both those games and, in fact, I thought the goal against Leicester was even better. He left player after player floundering in his wake and, unless the mists of time have messed with my memory, he drew his foot back as if to shoot, Shilton dived and Jimmy still had the ball at his feet and stroked it into the net.

I've always said that that was the greatest goal ever scored. No one who was there will disagree.

Yep, was at both games too and agree the Leicester goal was better. The way that Greavesie took the ball out of the air from Jennings kick, then turned on a sixpence to quote the evening paper to begin his magical run all added to the greatness of the goal.
I swear to this day there was a sole camera in the East stand gantry, and someone claimed the goal was shown on the news, I think BBC 2
I even wrote to the BBC about it years later, but they had no trace of any footage

I was there, and I endorse everything you say about it.

I don't remember seeing any footage of it, but i do remember the Sunday papers showing serial photos of it as he progressed down the pitch beating man after man without ever looking like losing control or thinking of anything other than getting the ball into the net, then circling away with one arm raised to the crowd in his usual manner.

Just another goal for the greatest!

Yes, I'm recalling that moment as I'm reading your comment. I'll never forget it as I'm sure nobody who was there to witness it for themselves ever will either.
