For the CCB, i'd like us to get someone with pace, so we can play the higher line but without fear of people getting in behind.

We could do with a Ledley King

Could Simakan play as the CCB?

We know he can play RCB but if he could also play CCB then his flexibility would be extremely valuable, on top of the fact he’s rated as a very good CB prospect.

My worry is he doesn’t have a buy out clause yet. If we go for him then they will get him to sign a new contract with a release clause that becomes active in the summer as they always do with their talents.
We really need a Van Dyke level signing at Cb, if we had another amazing CB it would help us no end. That js the position I’d go big on over anything else.
RWB is also key but I do think that is a much easier deal to do with the likes of porro, Dumfries (although I don’t like Dumfries), Frimpong etc.
2 signings will massively kick us on, plus if we can I’d get the right gk in. One who can play out from the back comfortably.
In an ideal world in Jan and Summer we’d sign a LCB or CCB who is top class, then maybe lenglet who will be cheap, but I’d love 2 top signings at CB. Then we’d sign the Kulu rotation which could either be a zaniolo type or a maddison type depending on what conte wants, a GK who can play out from the back, a RWB who has real pace, delivery and can beat a man/comfortable passing. I think from there it’s the a case of reacting to other needs as they come up from players leaving.
Hopefully we get money for the players who are out on loan (winks I worry we won’t) unless he finally realise his career is done and moves for 5m. Hopefully we can shift those who need to go, Emerson (although I’d shift him to RCB cover, Sanchez, Tanganga, probably Doherty, Lloris, Moura, will leave on a free, then calls need to be made on Dier, Davies, who I would sell but they can stay as 5/6th choice CBs but I doubt dier would stay in that case.
Calls need to be made on Sarr, Gil and Spence, I think we all hope spence makes it and is our rotation RWB, Gil is he ever going to be a conte/prem player if not we should sell him with a buyback clause, in case he does develop, sarr I don’t know anything about apart from he’s meant to be a big talent but he needs to go on loan at least if he’s not going to play at all, but he looks like a player who has all the raw attributes to really succeed, I would love him to develop and to have the option of a midfield 3 of biss, sarr, Benta as it has all the attributes to be so mobile, with very attacking fullbacks it could work well.
so in summary, needs desperate to fix over Jan/summer are;
GK - good with feet
LCB - aggressive ball player
CCB - ball playing quick
RWB -Quick, technical dribbler
Kulu cover - either maddison or zaniolo type
Then maybe another forward or creative type
Udogie incoming

Then outs
Sanchez
Lloris
Tanganga
Moura
Emerson (concert to rcb?)
Doherty (if spence develops)
Dier (unless happy to be 5th choice)
Davies (unless happy to be 6th choice)
Gil (is he ever going to be conte player)
Spence (will he make it under conte)
Sarr (will he make it under conte)

It seems conte wants a 22 man squad. We’ll have more but peri is versatile and experience is massive, sess can also play a few places plus is English.
gk - new gk, forster
Rcb - Romero, dier? Emerson?
CCB - new, lenglet, dier?
LCB - new, lenglet
RWB - New, spence?
LWB - peri, Udogie, sess
CM - Benta, Hojberg, biss, skipp, sarr?
RF - Kulu, new
ST - Kane, Richie
LW - Son, Gil? New?

Surely Sporting will be open to a deal with Porro as we still have a 50 percent sell on clause for Edwards. If he keeps performing they will think they can get a wedge for him.

As for the question on Simakan I am sure he has played in all 3 CB roles and also at RB occasionally.

I've seen a lot of posts about Porro but I just don't see Conte going for him. He's too small for him. he wants powerful, tall players in nearly every position by the looks of it which I don't agree with but it seems pretty clear he doesn't like playing small players.

Unfortunately this rules out Porro and Frimpong, both of whom could be good RWB options.

It also really narrows down the shortlist, probably only Dumfries as an option.

If Zaniolo is still at the top of Conte’s list I think there’s a chance we could get him in.

For all of the talk over the summer that he would sign a new contract, he never did reach a new agreement and only has 18 months remaining. This January is their last chance to get full price for him unless he changes course.

I’ve read reports that his form has been patchy. I haven’t watched enough to know whether that is true, but looking at their team selections he has been more of a rotation option than a mainstay in the XI.

Taken all together it seems that there could be an opportunity there, if Conte is able to convince the player to leave Italy.
He’s been very very patchy and only got his first goal of season last weekend. But tbf Tammy has also been very off his game which doesn’t help Zaniolo’s assist numbers. It is worth noting Zaniolo had been pushed to the left of a front 3 to accommodate Dybala and he’s very clearly not as comfortable there.

I do agree with you, I think we could well revisit it in Jan. Personally I don’t see us going for Maddison anymore now then in Jan if Conte isn’t a big fan.

The kulusevski comparison is key. We've seen how badly our general play is impacted by deki being out, so if we sign one player in January it has to be a creative passing attacker like kulusevski.
If we get one player in January then we're in for a sketchy second half of the season.

I agree though that a Deki alternate is key for us.

However, it's clear we also need to sort out defence.

For me the priority positions are (in order):

RW/AM(R)
CCB
RWB

In terms of who is available, I think there's some excellent options out there between expiring contracts and teams that need to cash in:

RW/AM(R): Maddison, Carrasco, Dembele, Lemar
CCB: Skrinniar, Torres, Ndicka, Timber
RWB: Dumfries, Frimpong, Porro

Lemar is pretty poor. But agree with the rest

I disagree on that. He's been a bit poor this season, but last season he was fairly decent, with his stats not being far off Carrasco from the previous season based on mins. He's not the £100m player that we was touted as a few seasons ago, but for £20-30m he could be the type of player that regains form at Spurs - remembering that he's going to be largely a rotation player for Deki.

We need a first choice CB and a first choice RWB, what we need at RW is a cover/rotation player. The other plus point of Lemar is that he's able to play on the left too, so we actually have a cover/rotation player for 2 positions, who shouldn't break the bank, but who has CL experience and has won titles in his career already.

For me he reminds me a lot of the Lenglet signing - someone who has quality but has isn't on great form in a team that's struggling a bit.

That all being said Maddison is the player we should sign instead, if the deal is possible.

Bit of a concern for the next two transfer windows is the ability to shift those players deemed as unwanted - could see that hampering our activities..

Winks hasn't been able to play
Lo Celso is now injured.
Ndombele is still showing only showing very inconsistent ability
Tanganga has no game time.
Reguilon has had little football since Easter.

Rodon has at least got some minutes under his belt.

Agreed. From the outside he seems like a no brainier. We know the price so could get it done quickly, and he would likely want to come given Sporting are now out of the Champions League.
I'd be paying that 1st January

Kim Min-Jae is getting good reviews at Napoli.

We were linked previously and he seems to have stepped up to a higher level (including CL) very well.

He has a release clause of €45 million which comes in to effect at the end of the season for teams outside Italy.

Can play CCB in the back 3 or CB in a back 4 too.

I'd like experience.

We always speak about the lack of tactical flexibility of our players and mentality so I think a couple more Perisic style signings would help.

I think we’ve missed the Maddison boat, Newcastle ( who were also linked with him in the summer ) will throw money at Leicester and Maddison and they’ll be an enticing option for him, more so if they get CL.

Yeah I think it'll be Dumfries. Inter may need to cash in and I don't think he'll be too expensive.

I also think people need to remember Conte isn't necessarily looking for a flying WB who can do everything. He likes WBs who are very effective in the final third, have height (so they can get headers a backrest) and are quite athletic. Dumfries fits that bill

I'd be absolutely all over that.

Could have had him for £15mil.

Are there better defenders available for 45mil?
