There's a huge double standard going on here. Players routinely go in for - illegal - tackles that threaten other player's careers and get no ban at all even retrospectively. I'd much rather se them punished severely.

I remember when Defoe bit Mascherano, I don't recall a single one of you lot espousing your faux disgust or calling for him to banned for a year.
The thing is what if Suarez has HBV or etc?

The thing is there's no way to really tell if a bad tackle is just a poorly executed mistimed tackle, or if it's intentional (unless someone admits they tried to hurt their opponent). With the biting it's just violent conduct plain and simple, and the fact that it's at least the third time he's done it means that he thinks it's OK to do it.

A retarded scouser on SSN said that the only reason he did it was to engineer a move away from Liverpool...

If FIFA only bans him from internationals, I hope the English FA bans him from domestic tournaments as well, as he has proven to be a danger to all other professional football players playing against him.

As TSH says, handing out a ban for International games won't address the problem.

Liverpool will want to protect their asset but they're also in a very tricky position regarding their sponsor - who have already made their feelings clear over the Evra saga - and their image as a Club.

They're in a difficult position no doubt about it.

Not really an issue for the police though is it. They can only stop the protestors to a degree, but frankly the protestors have more than a civic right to take to the streets and demand some changes.
Of course they do, and I am glad they are!

But you say 'not really an issue for police' in response to my post, in which I only suggested that the police probably have better things to do than get themselves involved in Luis bloody Suarez biting someone on the shoulder!

Much easier to prove that he meant to bite someone than to prove than someone deliberately tried to make a dangerous tackle.

Defoe did it once and it was in response to provocation (a dangerous tackle, in fact).

Suarez has bitten opponents on three occasions, each time unrpovoked.

To be honest I'm surprised Liverpool haven't already issued a statement defending him and saying that somehow it's all Patrice Evra's fault.

I expect to see Rodgers making excuses for him pretty soon after the tournament finishes. Perhaps they'll get Dalglish out to further defend their darling little beaver.

Liverpool are clearly waiting for the "Suarez is innocent" T-shirts to be printed.

The key is whether they are able to look at previous misdemeanours and take that into account when dealing out the ban.

If you simply keep giving players 8 game bans then they'll keep doing the same thing again and again. An 8 game international ban won't stop him doing it again.

I think you're right and he'll just get an international ban of a few games, but I really don't see how that deals with the problem at all.

I agree, but FIFA are hardly bastions of Truth and Justice, they're not going to want to dig any further than is absolutely necessary. It seems to me logical to assume that international and domestic cases are to be treated separately, and I doubt FIFA will need any encouragement to avoid making any tough decisions. Of course, if they had the best interests of the game at heart then perhaps they might take a stand, but, alas, we know they don't.

This is why I can see Liverpool getting rid of Suarez.

As good a player as Suarez is, he is dragging the name of Liverpool football club through the gutter and this will only cost
Liverpool.

Suarez has bucked teeth so when he puts his head forward theres always going to be contact with any defender. I actually see this as a disability I reckon he should plea this as his case. Ive watched it a dozen times and Suarez is pushing his head forward while Chiellini backs in to him holding him off.

People are also forgetting to add that if this were done in real life, not only would he have been sacked and most likely charged with something, prolly facing jail time, his kids would probably be taken away, even if it were just for a short amount of time, but nope... Just because he kicks a ball full of air earning £200k a week he gets a pass.

According to talksport there isn't much furore about this in the international press and the disgust is mainly coming from england
Thats wrong. They were going on and on about it here in America. Absolute disgust from Twellman, Lalas and Ballack. And its getting regular air time on SportsCenter. Twellman says he should get a lifetime ban.

Yeah but Defoe hadn't been racist, done it twice before and been a **** at the previous world cup. Oh, and Suarez dives a lot.

Defoe was just a lazy, selfish, amoeba who spent most of his career avoiding physical contact in case it prevented him from being on England's bench.
