Currently eulogising about Spurs/Levy/Poch on the debate.

The chair was trying to get them to speak against Levy but they were having none of it. (the panel were, Craig Bellamy, Steve Parish and Gordon Strachan)

Bellamy seems to love us, even giving excuses for the the Grealish saga.

This is so true.

Things can't be that bad at Chelsea...

Manager has been there about two fucking weeks and has been backed more than Poch has in his whole Spurs tenure.

Guess which of the two clubs you’d think was f@cked if you looked at our dealings this summer...

Perhaps that’s what Poch meant about taking risks at the start of the season ( letting everyone else improve there squads and we sign no one) he likes a challenge

IMO, the fault doesn't necessarily lie with Levy or Poch. The backroom all know what we can afford to spend; and early enquiries into player availability gives you an idea of what our targets cost. If we know that the prices are unrealistic, why do we keep on wasting our efforts on these futile signings? My thoughts are that our scouts are not doing a good enough job at finding out players for the budget that we KNOW WE HAVE. There are signings out there that would improve us for a realistic fee; or potential out there that can develop into a good signing. It doesn't even seem like looking at hot prospects was part of our MO this window, despite signings like these being what a club of our finances needs to do to survive. I'm not talking about your Grealish for 35mil that's too much of a price for championship player; I'm talking about your Maddison's who had a statistically better season and went for 25 mil.

Hate how people keep comparing our window to other clubs saying that were better off than them since there spending crazy money or buying bad players, i could'nt care less what other clubs are doing. I care about what Tottenham are doing, and what I want is for us to have a good window.
And i can say without doubt that we have not had a good window. Tomorrow would have to be one crazy deadline to be able to rectify that, and to top it all off we have half the time we usually do.
That said, we also have one of the best team and management we've ever had and its one of the best times to be a spurs fan, but that doesnt mean I cant be upset at our business does it?

That's where I'm at. It's possible to both be generally very happy in the historical context of how it feels to be a Spurs fan in 2018, and also simultaneously very frustrated with our summer transfer window so far. I don't think those are mutually exclusive opinions.

Bingo. This is a really good squad but we need to try to keep pace with the rest of the league and we can't sell players to them! This group can keep up with anyone in the league, but Toby is crucial to this. 3atb makes me feel comfortable against any team in the world. I don't have that same confidence minus Toby and trusting Dele to become an everyday CM.

Honestly how could you defend 0 signings?
Because saying he refuses to back Poch is blatantly not true. I very much doubt Levy sat in his office in May and thought " This Poch guy's done a good job but I fancy doing everything I can to not sign anybody this year, coz why not?". Failing to bring players in is so much different to refusing to back the manager

Not being able to bring in a single player would be refusing to back the manager. Deep down do you truly believe there wasn't a single player that we could bring in this window that Poch would have been happy with?

Isn't that how we got riff raff like GKN and Sissoko? Just buying in anybody the manager wouldn't mind? If you really think Levy decided he couldn't be bothered to sign anyone then you're mad

@sausage had some interesting quotes from Poch about his view on transfers in the daily ITK thread. I hadn't seen them before, so I found a recent article including more quotes, which come from his book. I'm not brave enough to post on the ITK thread, so here they are.

"We [i.e., Poch and Levy] spoke about being more effective, about strategies, about how we can improve and become more competitive. About why I prefer to give homegrown kids chances rather than signing players, and the problems that can be caused by buying players you don't need."

"A chairman and a manager can only really talk football at a superficial level. But I was able to explain to him in detail how, the more defined your playing style is, the more difficult transfers become, because either a player gives you something specific you're lacking, or you're better off not signing anyone."

So, the lack of movement may in part be because Poch gave a very specific list of players not available for reasons beyond our control. United won't deal us Martial because we are rivals and/or they fear a Salah & DeBroyne redux. AV doesn't want to deal us Grealish because they would rather take their chances with the FFP police. Zaha doesn't want to join Spurs because he doesn't want to split time with our other talented forwards and wingers. And so Poch is copacetic with how things go down in the end.

Or, Levy is just being unreasonably cheap, we could have hit all of Poch's transfer targets, Poch is livid, and he will be leaving Spurs next year.

We won't really know, until the next book is written (or he actually walks).

But if you want to study Poch's words for some secret intent, like they come from the Torah, you should include not just his off-the-cuff comments during a press conference about being "brave," but also his words from his book excerpted above.

Keep the powder dry for 24 more hours people .... if we are still at zero squad additions when the window closes then let hysteria reign. People are acting like the world is going to end and the window hasn't even closed yet.

Of course. What I really want though, is a window like Everton's last year. Loads and loads of money spent and signings.

Now that's being BRAVE™

Hindsight's a wonderful thing. At least they tried it just didn't work out.
I would rather try and fail than not try at all.
I think it's sad to bash a club who tries.

Not sure where to post this (i.e. don't want to get banned from the ITK thread), so am chucking it in here...

What is a 'fifa pre warning' that was being talked about in the ITK thread?
