I saw a tv segment on this yesterday. I didn't realize that viewership for American football, even at college level, dwarfs that of the NBA/MLB/NHL.

The NBA is the 2nd biggest pro sport in the US but the NFL is on a different level. The NBA finals averaged less than 12 million viewers.

I was actually more surprised by the fact that college football has higher ratings than the NBA and MLB.

College football is insane. Wembley wouldn't even be a top 10 college football stadium by capacity. Old Trafford would barely get in the top 25.

Wow. Salary cap rose by 31 million this year. I think the NFL is doing okay.

Despite that a couple teams are still WAY over the cap.

Hell, i saw earlier this week that the Saints are something like $40m over the cap for 2025.

They're over the cap every year. They'll restructure towards the future like they always do. As long as the cap rises they're fine.

Jeez, what a terrible deal that's been for the Broncos - 2 1st's and $85m in dead cap space, yikes!

Will be fascinating to see where Wilson ends up though as he'll now be picked up cheaply for a vet QB in a FA class that's not particularly blessed with talent but if Wilson has mentally checked out then if your a fan do you want that headache at your team?

As for the Broncos, looks like (as reported) they will go heavily for JJ McCarthy unless they feel one of Williams, Maye and Daniels will be sat on Arizona's lap at 4 but there'll be plenty of teams looking to trade up if that's the case.

5 picks, 3 players, $224m later.......
Really shocking when you see the full trade laid out....

Seahawks

  • QB Drew Lock
  • TE Noah Fant
  • DL Shelby Harris
  • OT Charles Cross (2022 - 1st round pick)
  • OLB Boye Mafe (2022 - 2nd round pick)
  • OLB Tyreke Smith (2022 - 5th round pick)
  • CB Devon Witherspoon (2023 - 1st round pick)
  • EDGE Derick Hall (2023 - 2nd round pick)
Broncos

  • QB Russell Wilson - Signed a five-year, $245 million contract extension following the trade
  • DL Eyioma Uwazurike (2022 - 4th round pick)

So the Seahawks got 3 starters from just the picks(Cross, Witherspoon, Mafe) a rotational pass rusher (Hall) and a backup LB (Smith), a backup QB (Lock), a starting TE (Fant) and a DL who ended up a cap casualty (Harris).

The Broncos got $85m in dead cap and a bench DL and 2 losing seasons. But they kept their GM....

So Pats have traded Mac Jones to the Jags for a low round draft pick.

Wilson can sign with any team for the vet minimum of around $1.25m, on top of what Denver have to pay. He's met with the Giants as well. Pitt are reportedly not interested in him as a starter. So if he is to sign with some one they need to be willing to make him the starter (many would not). Another possible destination is the Vikings, but this is dependant on what happens with Cousins.

We needed to get rid of Mac, the situation had become toxic all around. We certainly did him no favors in his development but he also didn't do anything to help himself. Sounds like there was a portion of the roster who were fed up with him, numerous staff were fed up with him (and his representation) and the a sizeable contingent of the fans. I think it will be good for him to go to Jacksonville (his hometown) and rebuild some semblance of confidence while on a team that truly doesn't need him on a weekly basis.

Wilson, it seems, is done and dusted to the Steelers only the announcement from the Steelers remains at this point. The Giants meeting was supposedly arranged at the behest of Wilson's agents and there didn't seem to be any true interest in him from the Giants (sounds like the Raiders may have been a similar story and they wouldn't even set up a meeting).

With Baker signing a 3-year deal in Tampa i think Atlanta will try to make a big play at Cousins and if that fails throw a couple mid/late round picks at Chicago for Fields.

Just seen the story posted that Pitt is where Wilson will land on £1.2m. Tomlin going for another East Virginia native.

The situation with offensive co-ordinators did not help much either in NE and you could see it brewing in 2022. Drake Maye seems to be the consensus pick for them.

Got fingers crossed Washington takes Daniels.

Sounds like we were expecting more interest in Fields than what there has been, so the offers we have had, haven't been anywhere near what we wanted.

I think we still keep hold, trade back our pick and get a haul of picks and try one last push with Fields as QB.

At this stage it's alot of posturing going on.

Much will depend on Cousins if he resigns with the Vikes or goes to Atlanta but now with Mac Jones departing Patriots i'd be most surprised if we didn't see a QB 1-2-3 in the draft unless one feels they can slide out of the Williams/Maye/Daniels trio and target say McCarthy who's stock has risen greatly.

Raiders still touted to trade up but i'll be honest, unless it's Daniels I'd rather we go OT/RG (Fuaga ideally) or DT (Murphy II) and then perhaps look at trading up for Penix later in the 1st.
