Regardless of what I think about Crouch. I just don't inderstand this direction of spending. We already have four fit strikers, surely this situation doesn't need addressing. Even with this little one in one out shuffle (possible improvement?), it still doesn't seem quite right.

We're likely to start the season with our 3 top central defenders missing. Torres isn't gonna lose any sleep over the prospect of playing against our 21 and 22 at CB!!! Money needs to be spent on a premiership top 5 or 6 worthy CENTRAL defender first. CENTRAL in CAPS as we seem to have the same policy with right backs as we do strikers. IE we have two or three but lets get another in and then perhaps move one on. WHY for goodness sake? Are crouch and naughton much better than hutton and bent? I'm not so sure.

Secondly, it doesn't matter who we have upfront. They're never gonna get the ball in potential scoring situations. Are levels of creativity over the weekend were frankly pathetic. The youngsters made are starters look like school boys. Are we gonna have to rely on 40yard passes from tommy each week to move the oppos around? humpff!!!! We need to get that midfield sorted and firing. The only strong midfield link we've had this season has been Vieria. Again our bizarre signing policy, We have that position sorted!!!!! Ok Palacios needs to do a lot more when we have the ball but he is a beast when the other team has it. DM - Position sorted.

As a side with things how they are, (and to tbh we have good players, it's just not working . . .) as Lennon spends so much time cutting in I'd like to perhaps see him move to the left, so at least he's coming in onto his stronger foot. Modric centre, the boys quality and he needs more of the ball to show this. Lightweight perhaps, but him and Pal is the closest we've had in a long time to Keane and Scholes. Bentley (man we've underused this guys talents) on the right, balls into the box will be even more important with Crouch signing on so Please Harry give Bentley a decent run in his preffered position!!! Again he was top class in thos seasons at Blackburn. I think that's the only way we're gonna see a true return on the big man.

I'd perhaps then work on any signings to strengthen that pretty strong line of four after a CB.

BUT Why don't we spend the money on obvious weak links in the 1st team before we cover our already strong positions? How many seasons will this keep going on for?

We have individual strikers good on paper. None of them can gel and strike up any sort of partnership.

Defoe and crouch linked really well. Resulting in some of Defoes best form ever.

4 fit stikers??? so let's not get better players in as the ones we have are fit, yeh might as well stayed with Rasiak and Postiga, both were fit....

What seems exactly right to me is that we are getting in players which are better than those we're shipping out

Crouch and Naughton came first as they were available, Crouch as about to join Sunderland Naughton was about to join Everton, so we needed to move to get the players in.

We are early in our pre season training still, came down a bit, liverpool and many other teams have had poor pre season results so far, it's not worth getting worried about.

Vieira is a different type of player to Palacios, he offer something different. Plus now we've sold Zokora we need a back-up DM option. Vieira is a good player for us to sign, barring his gooner ties.

As a side with things how they are, (and to tbh we have good players, it's just not working . . .)

Yep it's totally not working. Harry's record with us would have only got us 1 point behind Everton in 6th had he been in charge of us for the whole of last season, that and a CC final - what a naff first season in charge heh.

To be honest i think your being very unfair on the siutaiton. My take on it is this:

Naughton (-£5m) > Gunter (+£1.5m)
Crouch (-£9m) > Bent (+£14m)
Vieira (-£5m) > Zokora (+£8m)

For me that's £4.5m up with better players to show for it.

Yes CB is a problem when we have 3 of them injured, but if we had 3 strikers out we'd be in even more of a mess (if Bent goes). Corluka, Chimbonda and Thudd can all play in that role if called on. As for DM if Palacious is injured who do we have Thudd.

We will improve on every position on the pitch but only as players are available that are better than what we have.

I think harry knows exactly which positions are weak at the moment and he is doing a good job in improving in those areas

Do we really need one of these shitty threads dissing Redknapps signings every 6hours or so?

If we have got Crouch for 9million and sell Bent for 12million+ we have approved the squad and made 3 million profit. Gravy.

Also i bet Bent is shit at doing the robot.

If we play the first 8 games of the season with 2 from Corluka, Chimbonda and Hudd in CD we will struggle to improve on last season's points tally in those infamous 8 games.

Sorry but I find this a very odd thread. In January Harry dealt with half our problems with some very shrewd signings. I remember watching our 2nd half capitualtion against Man Utd and thinking if we had a link-up man up front we could be defending from the front and might get something out of this. Harry has now addressed this as he knows having Keane, Defoe and Bent is pointless.

We have a harder centre now but Palacios is going to get suspended and possibly injured at some point. With Zokora gone we need another hard man preferably with experience and captaincy qualities, Vieira fits this perfectly.

I simply don't understand what the thread starter is talking about especially as Harry has spoken about the need for a new centre back so I'm assuming we must be looking.

we need a left footed player (pienaar would be worth 10/12mil in my book) he's a real warrior and he hasnt signed a new contract yet (must be a reason).

We slso need an old pro CB, Someone of Dunne's ilk wouldnt be an issue for me, 5 million.

Or spunk 10 mil on Bassong.

We're buying too much young talent again for my liking but providing we sort out the above im not bothered.

Btw I'd play bentley and palacios in cm.

on the CB issue, do we actually know the extent of the injuries to Woody and Daws? How long are they likely to be out for? Lets wait until we know the answers to the above before we start to panic buy.

With regards to Crouch, he's the one striker out of the ones that we've got who can forge a partnership with the other 3, as said, that's what we've been missing.

Basically, it seems to me that we are just getting back to basics. Round pegs in round holes and all that.

Redknapp's a genius wheeler dealer, and an even better user of the media.

This notion that our three top centre-backs are all injured has become widely accepted as fact, when all Redknapp said about King was that he "hasn't kicked a ball in pre-season".

With King, that's not the same thing as being injured at all. Redknapp did not pick those words by accident.

Suddenly centre-back was our priority, the world was told. Less than a week later we've signed Peter Crouch for barely half the price being touted a month ago.

Great stuff from Levy and 'Arry. If the downside to that is a few panicked Milquetoasts getting their knickers in a twist on the internet, it's a small price to pay.

Don't panic Mr Mainwaring, the back four for Liverpool will probably be:

Naughton Corluka King Ekotto

3 internationals, and loads of pace.

We're finally buying players who complement the other players in our TEAM and it's bloody refreshing.

Long may it continue.
