Didn’t hurt Arsenal too badly
Yes it did. They missed out on CL for 6 years. Getting back has been extremely painful for them. Do you seriously want to go through that? That they've recovered is to their credit, but think about the factors which got them back - do you think we will replicate them easily? We can't even sign the right players with CL - imagine what we'll be like without.

It's madness to say dropping out of CL will help us.

How does making life more difficult help?

Makes zero sense to me. They aren't mutually exclusive. You can bring in new players and still be in Champions leauge.

Our performances away to a really poor Wolves and Leicester are way more concerning to our top 4 chances than Liverpool winning today. I don't care about this result as I have very little faith in us being good enough anyway.

Beginning a rebuild without CL revenue / player pull is not a conducive environment to start a rebuild as a big 6 side. You have your best chance of recruiting a player to replace Kane with CL football.

Other top sides are fine rebuilding without CL and losing players like Chelsea and Arsenal. As for money that’s why we built and saved and spent vast money for the new stadium.

if we can’t rebuild without CL then we have serious issues.

Obviously a lot of fatalistic posts in the last few pages - mine especially
But a lot of similar held views all feeling the same thing- this constant striving for 4th and 4th only isn’t really what anyone wants -apart from Daniel it seems.
I don’t want a success balance sheet or the best revenue from concerts etc.
I want a team that takes challenging for trophies seriously

And they have been beat out to many of their targets. They had a manager with special links to the City squad, recruited cleverly, and also uprooted their best player out of the academy. We haven’t proven to do any but the latter. Great side but think their supporters would agree they have also had a significant streak of luck this season.

This is just being in denial - that word luck. I mean you can also look at the fact where they havent had 'luck'.... winning a league is a marathon and it requires overcoming obstacles by hook or by crook.

As fans, we have this tendency that - when we lose etc we blame on the what ifs. Rather than actually owning it and, to an extent on the club - forcing change. what if, what about, luck etc etc etc When other teams are better, it is down to luck, refereeing, but but but they have this and that etc.

You dont stay on top of the league throughout the entirety of the season by streaks of luck. Nothing lucky about it. Its a lot of what you mentioned previous to the last line - all planning, philosophy, strategy, time, patience, backing the project... mentality, spend, its significantly more than just luck.

This is something we need to do now for the remaining games of the season - overcoming this week and challenging ourselves

Chelsea are a bankrolled freak and Arsenal took ages and were awful. I don't want to go through that.

The point is, how does missing out on CL help? It doesn't, it's a massive setback we need to avoid. Losing CL just makes everything more difficult. Seems utterly dumb to say dropping put would help

it wouldn’t but the idea that it massively sets us back shows we are a mess. Even with CL we have what seem like little plan and that is the bigger issue

I think what people are saying is, it might prompt the board to make the necessary changes, as the revenue lost by failing to qualify is the only thing that would motivate them. Sadly this has been shown not to be the case in previous years when we didn't qualify. I don't think it's our spending that's the issue anyway, it's rather the lack of recruitment strategy or any coherent vision.

We’ve all had these panic attacks multiple times already this season. I have to be honest I think I’d be way more concerned about Liverpool if they’d done this to a bus parker where the likes of Gakpo, Nunez and Salah have been poor and the likes of Henderson, Fabinho, Bajcetic offer little creativity which means the full backs have to push up and they are exposed at the back. Games like this where teams leave themselves wide open are going to be Liverpool’s bread and butter but not many are stupid enough to play as open as United did today. In fact it’s probably the first time I’ve seen a team take Liverpool on that way all season

Arsenal seem to have done OK without it. Just can't see the point in having little to no chance of wining a trophy. I would rather win the league cup or Europa conference cup than get to the quarter finals of the Champion league.

We can still nick 4th but we would need a new manager bounce; however, i dont think Conte will go until end of the season now unfortunately. Good coach but sadly working for the wrong owner.

Have you talked to many of their fans. I doubt they will believe that they have had any luck.

My hope is that Conte returns and gets us on a run and revitalised. We would need to play like a Conte team in the final 2 months to get 4th. I don't get why people don't want top 4 or want to write off the season. It's still a good achievement and makes this season more meaningful. It would give us a good platform ahead of next season. I don't like to say the word entitled but turning your nose up at top 4 seems a bit like that.

These sort of results are just one offs . A couple of seasons ago Liverpool won 7 away to Palace and were poor for a number of games after that . We once put 9 past Wigan and could harely score a goal in the next 5 games. United just lost it completely after playing well in the first half.
the question now is can we catch United Because there is every chance Liverpool will catch us.
