The first thing that sprang to mind today was that his first game back, when he and the crowd are going to be massively fired up, was against us hence probably the worst set of circumstances to be playing at OT. Glad I found out he's injured.

Obviously, Rooney is an exceptional footballer in terms of technique, and understanding. Most of the top footballers are.

However, what sets him apart is his hunger. When receiving the ball, if he is being tightly marked, or is challenging head on, he makes it his priority to win the ball first; he has perfected his technique to a standard at which he is comfortable enough to prioritise all of his non-attacking attributes in key situations.

Many players have his ability, but his mentality is different.

I was walking home after work, and a few drinks, and a few guys were playing some decent football on the Battersea Park all weather pitches.

Only thing 'rubbish' that I noticed was that most players were not willing to put themselves fully into a challenge when receiving a pass.

When we played UTD the other day at one point Rooney was shielding alone against 3/4 of our men. This made me take heed regarding Rooney's full abilities.

I'm still a little drunk, so this explanation may not suffice, but it's all your getting.
