They weren't left with much choice. They had to play a strategic game.
I'm still not sure what Borthwick is trying to achieve with this team. Some silly kicks through the centre and giving the ball away.
I'd ban kicking on field as manager unless it was to relive pressure in your own 22. Does nothing but give the opposition ball.
England have done well with the high ball when it's not landing in the opponents 22, and getting it back a good few times.
But we use it too much as don't seem to be able to break any lines to make much gains.
