Wish Sunderland and Stoke was still around in the PL. They were always happy paying top money for our dross.

What would you guys think about Andre Gomes? We’ve been interested before and now we’ve seen him a season over here and he has impressed. A dip in form in february but otherwise really good. Everton will try to sign him, but we could probably snatch him for around £35M.

Another loanee, Kovacic, reportedly said that he whishes to stay in England. If Chelsea, with a probable transfer-ban, can’t sign him - should we?

Or should we lay our eyes at a more physical midfielder as Doucouré, Kessie and (dare I...) Ndombele?

We went from "with how good our First XI is, it'd be hard for us to purchase someone that would instantly improve the side" to basically "Sell everyone (Bar Kane/Alli/Verts) and anyone we purchase would be an upgrade."

Rose has been good this season, no way should he be sold. We have enough to do without selling one of our few consistent performers.

Trippier, Wanyama, Lucas/Lamela all need upgrading for starters. If we managed to sell and replace those three, along with selling (or donating) gkn and Janssen we'd be in a much better place.

Kovacic looks a real possibility given that Madrid will likely go through a spending spree in the summer and want to sell off excess players. Would add him and Berge to our CM options.

Wasn't involved on Sunday... Is he injured?

The stadium is absolutely fantastic and the club along with levy etc should be rightly applauded for delivering it, but in some ways it's almost came at the wrong time for us just as the team was peaking.
Now along with no investment and some player's out of form or suffering injuries this team looks as if it has reached the end of the road with a few needing to leave, but if that is to happen can we honestly expect to see quality replacements because I'm not so sure we will go that far.
How would poch feel if again recruitment falls short of expectations and that's if we even make top four because right now we don't look like doing it and so the budget decreases further still.

One more season at the Lane and we may have won the PL :(

I'd like to see us bring in 3 or 4 young British talents, like we have done previously

Over the last couple of seasons Grealish, Brooks, Maddison, etc have all been available at reasonable prices

Obviously we didn't rate any of them, or at least for the prices their clubs were demanding

Or he could do for us what he did for Ajax & sign the contract, so that the club that has played such a huge part in his development and (possible) career enhancement is handsomely rewarded.

Well big difference here is that Ajax were always gonna sell for a fair price, where as Spurs chairman is very unlikely to do that...
So if CE wants a chance to try another team/league, it would be a bad idea to sign a long contract, because he would never be let go. So while I understand people want to cash in on him - from a personal perspective I understand CE.

Don't worry well get the usual stories being fed from the club of untold riches, war chests, season ticket waiting lists and lessons learnt around season ticket renewal dates and as usual the masses will lap it up and renew. Cant believe that people haven't cottoned on to it as of yet. Whats the saying, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice etc. etc.

Not being funny but not buying a ST because we fail to get CL doesn’t make anybody doing that a great fan. Also if you buy a ST because we think we are going to sign someone then again not the greatest. You should be buying a ST with the club because you can afford it, and want to watch us week in week out

This is the largest failing of recent years. Considering the jackpot we won with Dele we seem unwilling to try a similar gamble. We should be signing a lower league player every window really regardless of what is happening anywhere else in the side.

True.

Added to Poch's less than clear comments on player recruitment and various bits of ITK, it does make you wonder whether Levy, Poch and the scouting team have different ideas on our transfer strategy.

Was Poch pushing for big 'established' names to come into the squad, while Levy was happy with the cheaper, younger 'potential' options?

Perhaps Poch thought that he had done enough (multiple CL finishes) to force Levy's hand into spending some big-bucks and so dug his heels in? However, he didn't fully appreciate how stubborn Levy can be; something everyone else tends to see.

To me, last summer's TW is both frustrating and strange in equal measure. It's just so unusual that we didn't take a punt on a Grealish or Maddison!

EDIT: I had to double-check; we didn't even sell any players either!! Very bizarre summer TW :cautious:

Sorry but for all the abuse and criticism Levy gets, attempting to gain maximum financial renumeration for a player attracting the attention of the worlds biggest & most successful clubs is standard practice, and what all clubs do.

On form, and taking into account the way transfer fees have gone absolutely bloody mental, Eriksen is a £100m+ player.

NO CLUB sells at (what you described as) a fair price.

Robertson, Maddison, Brooks to name a few are the types of deals we should be throwing ourselves at.

If we can't or won't sign immediate 1st team players for 50+ million pounds, then we should be buying up young English talent with the hopes that they turn out good for us. All three of the above players would improve our squad and arguably our starting 11. Go and look at the fees these guys were signed for. It is minute compared to some of the figures being paid for sub par players.

If we can sign Dele from MK Dons and promote him almost immediately to our starting 11, we can take those kind of chances again. It's better than doing sweet blue f*** all where we end up in the position we are in now.

I'd rather we take that approach to be honest, I don't buy into the mentality that we need to spend big to progress.

Arguably, English (or British) players should be easier to scout as well; from a geographical point of view, but also a cultural understanding of what the player would want, or need.

Also, you'd like to think that our scouts and other club personnel are 100% familiar with the English game and it's infrastructure; the pitfalls and who you can trust, etc.

Surely it must be easier than scouting a player in the French league (or South America)?
