Vlaar and now Shawcross, I'm beginning to think that paper story about John O'shea we all scoffed at may not have been as bollocks as it seemed

Shawcross is currently doing his coaching badges and is doing some coaching at junior level at Nantwich Town where my son plays. His son goes there every Saturday for the community session. Next time I'm down there I'll ask him.

hope i'm not going over all ground but these are the words from Don Mclean's song American Pie so I assume the player is James McClean from Wigan

Typical Levy cheapness.

Buy a player, get a coach for free... :)

Shawcross is a orrible git but he's a good defender. We wouldn't have capitulated against teams so frequently with him in the side. Plus Goons would hate him so much.

No doubt Jj has an excellent source, but I'm not sure why his every comment is taken as scripture in that exact moment in time, just as with what occurred with Davies. The Goat may have a different source, and one that's heard something more recently. Jj is great ITK, but that doesn't necessarily define impending results later down the line.

JJ can get the odd thing wrong but his track record with due respect to all the other ITK's is far superior, "no chance" and "goat has been on ketamine" are pretty much killing off the idea of Shawcross, of course JJ can get things wrong, he is not Levy or Lewis, but i trust JJ over whoever is using the goat, while at the same time treating this ITK with respect

i'd rather have John Oshea than Shawcross lol

Hell, I'd rather have the Goat, and his drug addiction, at the back than bloody Shawcross.

I think we lack a pair of bollocks in the team. We are too nice. I'd take him. We have Sandro who rattles people and that's it. I'm probably in the minority but I'd take him, or at least someone In that mould that isn't scared to get stuck in. He's the type that could probably play on a wet Tuesday night in stoke.....:sneaky:

Wouldn't mind him as a backup but he will cost first team CB money and not worth it IMO.

The guy is an animal, belongs in a cage in a zoo not on a football pitch, he would get a lot of red cards for us, would be under a lot more scrutiny than at Stoke plus there are a lot of Chelsea and Arsenal supporting refs who would love to put one over us

No just no

Even if there was a slight interest in Shawcross, add that to Vlaar possible interest too, and I'm thinking the target for a new CB is a tough as nails type. I don't like either of those two links particularly but I like the thinking. Vertonghen can be the carrier, his partner the organiser and the heart of the defence.
Think there's such an obsession on the ascetically pleasing type of players, if this link was some great on the ball player who'd never played in PL there'd be wet dreams everywhere. Its about the CB partnership, they need to offer different things to form a collective whole.

shawcross is crap. accidentally breaking aaron ramsey's leg once doesn't make him some tough guy defender either, he's clumsy, not tough.

Although definitely not my choice, let alone first choice for our CB issues, I'd definitely take Vlaar over Shawcross if push came to shove!

You obviously do not have a clue about where James comes from and why he refuses to wear a poppy. I think you need up your research a bit more before making stupid insinuations.
He comes from Derry and indeed from a strongly republican background. The poppy and all it stands for can be a very divisive issue here in Northern Ireland. Most people don't really care outside strong unionist and nationalist areas.

I remember when a lot of people were scoffing at Harry trying to get Cahill, and now he was arguably the best CB in the league last year.

Its like everyone forgets how we play when we are 1 goal ahead
and heading into the last 10 minutes

Them the times you want a Vlaar or a Shawcross clearing shit into row z and shouting "Aaavve iiittt"
