You could add all the shirts, scarfs, rattles and bubblegum and tea in China together and still not come up with 100 million endorsements and sponsorship. This fantasy idea that Bale would attract "World Class" players is just that, fantasy. If not then why didn't we even attract Benteke? (hardly World class) and Villa to the club?

Paulinho has (from what i am told) trebled his earnings and that my friend is what it's all about, money and bugger all to do with who they line up next to. Next your'l be telling us all that Cavani would have come to Spurs but for the doubt about Bales future?

Paulinho turned down Inter 6 months ago. You think they wouldn't have given him a pay rise? Bale is what makes us more attractive than clubs like that. He goes, AVB will follow, and when we falter which we would players like Lloris and Vertonghen won't be far behind. I don't know about you but I rather like battling Chelsea, Arsenal, and the Manchesters for top 4 rather than Liverpool, Everton and Swansea for Europa play-in games. Benteke liked us enough to hand in a bloody transfer request, and Villa chose not to uproot his family and move to a different country for the last three years of his career, are those really the best examples you've got?

This talk of 'selling your best players and others will follow'. We had this last season with Modric. Yes we lost Jenas is January but other than that I think we coped.

Absolutely. Cristiano Ronaldo's £80m was recouped within three years of him signing due to advertising/merchandising. 1m of his shirts were sold in Madrid alone during his first season. So Real Madrid paid... Nothing, plus wages/signing on fee for him.

Just had a look on google and to back up your point Real Madrid sold 1.2m Ronaldo shirts in his first season alone! They also sold 800,000 beckham shirts in his first season. Those figures alone would just about cover Ronaldos transfer fee and put them ahead on beckham a fee (not including wages) if we could get anywhere near those numbers with bale then there is a definite logic on keeping him whatever the fee and that is before you take into account all the other income streams these sorts of players generate.

You really can't see how keeping a global name like Bale, which is going to keep increasing, would not benefit this Club massively. The growing fan base, the exposure, the demonstration of ambition to others which would rapidly increase our chances to attract more quality players, more lucrative naming rights could be secured, sponsorship, image rights...just goes on and on.

I can't put a figure on it, hell Levy would probably struggle to do that in any precise sort of way. We are talking about projections as well here, that's why I'm saying it might not be as simple as just saying yeah x amount would be hard to turn down.

The point is these are factors Levy will be considering very carefully, you can bet your life on it.

Bale could well go for 80 million for all I know, maybe he will really push for it...and maybe Levy will decide his stock isn't likely to be this high again, but I'm betting some of the above will be at the forefront of his mind when all this is being weighed up.

You're ignoring the long term affects IMO.

O.K. if he's a money magnet then why isn't Levy offering him 200 grand a week? If his return on investment is so freaking huge then why not make him a ten year deal on that with a 10% pay rise each year? I'd bet any money you want that if an offer of ninety to one hundred million came in for Bale Levy would snatch Real Madrid's hands off.

Bale or anyone else for that matter just will not generate anywhere near the kind of money for the Club (minus his wages, and bonuses should he stay) that are even close to the fee being quoted for his transfer. I want him to stay but not for the money being alleged for his transfer.

Bale talk, Soldado talk, it's all got so tedious. Can't wait for the minute this window slams shut and we can concentrate on the actual football

If Bales head has been turned I would do whatever I can do in my power to sell him the Barca or Bayern Munich. Completely ignore any bids from Real

I really just want to hear about a new player we are looking at. Surely we aren't solely focused on Soldado and Bale right now.

What positions will we be looking to attain after Soldado and potentially a LB mate? I personally feel we should be after a centre half. Someone like Matthias Ginter who could also play defensive midfield if need be.

Gylfi still potentially off on loan? would it be inside the league or abroad?

That Chiriches fella looks like he could do a job in midfield, too. I wouldn't rule him out. I would love to bring on a versatile defender/midfielder type.

As I said in the Gareth Bale thread:
I agree with what your saying but if we invested well we could still break into the top 4 and that may be as good a lure for top players as Bale.

I think if they do sell him the may try and do business before they do so. If they don't I fear all the prices were quoted will be heavily inflated!

Exactly it would be nice to have a chat about another player strongly linked and on his way to the lane for a couple days, just hope its quicker and doesnt result in 400 pages :D

Yup. Think the 7m price tag is too high though. Pretty sure their owner is in jail and they need money

Bale talk will go on for the whole window, Soldado is this weeks darling, last week was Benteke, before that Villa. Next week...Zarate?

Quite, although worryingly I think some fans concentrate so much on our transfer activity than actual football played!

In any case, I think we can wrap the Soldado thread up next week with the odds hugely in favour of a positive outcome but this Bale shiz is going to last a while longer unfortunately - regardless of what rhetoric we adopt.

By us do you mean THFC or spurscommunity only I don't think many people on here are focused on Soldado, our new striker, our record ever signing who by one account is coming for a medical tomorrow, at all.
Rest assured the club are focusing on more than what we have so far.
