As much as I like the player he is no way worth £25m.

His potential maybe, but certainly not his current ability.

If he is the only forward brought in this summer I will be hugely disappointed.

I'm expecting us to get on-top of this striker situation, which IMO has been a massive downfall over the years considering our exceptional performance in bringing in quality players everywhere else.

If £20million is the ceiling then I very much doubt our opening bid would be that amount as alluded to by the press.

Can't see this one resolved quickly and certainly not before we jet off to Hong Kong.

Sorry that was aluding to the reports of Dempsey and co. being pumped about. We would consider bids for every player

There's no club in the world would consider this, especially one trying to break the established top 4. Regardless of the money I couldn't see DL selling Bale, Lloris, Sandro, Vertonghen, etc.

Especially as we have 2 pieces of itk today - I dont want mass hysteria to build up from a guy who joined today and is "passing" on getting vetted.

Have reached pretty much the same conclusion over the last few years.

Even though Benteke is only worth 20m, there is no way Villa will accept 20m so any bid of 20m is just another wheel barrow of cash round Europe by the club imo. ''Look, see we are willing to spend big on a marquee signing, this proves it''. It will miraculously fall through somehow like the Moutinho deal.

That isn't realistic because he would cost too much.

I think Bernard + Villa might have been the original plan tbh...Gutted because that would of been absolutely insane.

Now we've lost out of Villa I reckon it means we've in essence had to swap around our budget for striker and wide forward.

With Benteke for 20 or so million and maybe Chadli for 6-7 million.

I live in hope but been burn't too many times, still amazed we signed Hugo so hoping we just been unlucky but deep down i feel our pockets are much deeper than our arms can reach.

Yeah, I'd agree with most of that. Imo we could challenge with a trio of Ade, Defoe and Benteke but only if we added another wide forward type.

If we lose Ade and sign Benteke, I'm not 100% convinced we are any better off than last season. Ade's loan season was a fair distance more impressive than Benteke last year.

The difference this time is Benteke could turn into a real problem for them if a deal isn't done. He is the player, with his goals, that kept them in the Premier League. If he is made to stay and the goals dry up Villa could be in the mire.

I couldn't see Villa getting through a regular premiership season, I reckon the physical demands would have been too much.

Maybe so but he was seemingly our plan A; I doubt we would of signed another top striker a la Benteke.

Interesting to see what would of panned out, can't help feeling we would of got a top quality wide forward if Villa deal had gone through.

i think you could argue the same case for them with Bent for the year before that, only difference being they didnt have a 20mil offer sat on the table for Bent, I don't buy the Adebayor 10/11 is better than Benteke 11/12, its very hard to make that statement. Is very different playing in a team at the top to a team towards the bottom, only thing I'm fairly confident of is Benteke > Remy, I believe if Benteke was at QPR they would have stayed up, however how he will fair when teams aren't as attackminded like at the Lane is hard to say. playing for Villa/QPR he will have plenty of space on the counter.

Plan A was a nearly 32 year old striker, who we would be probably looking to replace in a year? That doesn't sound like it should be plan A sounds more like plan D or E.
