Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed his interest in Palermo striker Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguay international is regarded highly by Redknapp, who admits he is having the youngster scouted.

"We are following what Cavani is doing in the league, like we follow other players around Europe," Redknapp told reterete24.it. "My scouts have developed positive reports on him and I have personally watched a few games in the boxes of Palermo.

"The fact that we're following him does not mean, however, that there is already a deal. I think we will decide by the end of the season. For Cavani, we will see in the future if this player can be really helpful to our cause."

Not sure on the vailidity of the quotes, it is tribal football after all, but you never know. Only seen the guy a couple of times so can't really judge but seemed a good player. I'm sure the likes of IOMLS, Thowig and DP are far better placed to comment.

The paper it is quoting is italian, so my guess (if those quotes are real) would be that Redknapp gave quotes in English, but to an Italian reporter during a visit to Italy, who then wrote the story in Italian, and they have since been translated back into English from the Italian version.

Exactly what I was just thinking. "We will see in the future if this player can be really helpful to our cause" just doesn't sound like HR.

Yup - it would be more like: "Yeah, if he can fackin' do it then we might sign him innit. Talk to the fackin' chairman."

would this link into all those stories of "Harry off to italy tonight" ITKs over the summer and in jan? Don't know much about the player so can't comment. I would tend to agree it doesn't sound like HR however the lost in translation excuse could work. Either way it's not really a starter of a story and i suggest that if we announce an interest in a player before a deal is done we are unlikely to sign them as we will no doubt alert others to their availability unless.....when the balls in the goal and its not Jermain Defoe it's Cavani, its Cavani......Oh the summer madness has already started, 2 south americans at the lane in the summer and it's only March - gotta love the Spurs rumour mill.

I mentioned this in January as I know a couple of people who are associated with Palermo.

My impression of him is that he is quite quick and powerful, good on the ground and in the air, but not the most prolific nor the most creative. It's not based on much though, only seen him twice, how would you describe him?

Would agree however he's never been overly prolific.

Think players like Cavani and Derdiyok are viable options.

But he is still pretty young(just turned 23) so I would think that he is still developing and learning his trade.
