Maybe this isn't exactly the right place for this thread, but with all the extra lockdown time I have been compiling a list of all former Tottenham captains on Wikipedia (and there doesn't seem to be any complete resource of this online). Right now it looks something like this:

1882-1883Bobby Buckle
1884-1896Jack Jull
1897–1904Jack L. Jones
??? - ???Walter Bull
1908-1912Danny Steel
1912?Bobby Steel ?
1912 - 1915Tom Collins
1919Billy Minter
1919-1920 ?Thomas Clay ?
1920–1929Arthur Grimsdell
1929-1932Cecil Poynton
1932 - 1933Billy Felton
19331939Arthur Rowe
1946–1954Ron Burgess
1954–1955Alf Ramsey
1955–1956Danny Blanchflower
1956–1957Tony Marchi
1957–1958John Ryden
1958-1959Bobby Smith
1959–1964Danny Blanchflower
1964–1968Dave Mackay
1968–1972Alan Mullery
1972–1975Martin Peters
1975–1986Steve Perryman
1986Stephen Clemence
1987Richard Gough
1987–1998Gary Mabbutt
1998–2001Sol Campbell
2001–2003Teddy Sheringham
2003–2005Jamie Redknapp
2005–2012Ledley King
2012–2014Michael Dawson
2014–2015Younès Kaboul
2015–presentHugo Lloris

So, I've filled a lot of the gaps in but I think there might be some missing players in living memory. I accept before Ron Burgass we might be struggling for names but I wonder if anyone can help. Particularly in confirming some of the dates. I'm particularly struggling to find who was captain before Blanchflower in the 1958/59 seasons.

EDIT: I have underlined dates I'm particularly unsure of. I have added question marks to names that for some reason I have doubts about dates or if they were even captain, despite some evidence to suggest they were.

I have almost finished. The only major gap is who came between Jack Jones and Bobby Steel and, well the 1930s. We have two names (Poynton and Rowe) but the dates are a little speculative, We know Rowe was captain in 1933 but the rest is more of an educated guess. Poynton, it must be said rarely played after getting the captaincy in 1929, so it's very possible, even likely, that there was another captain between Rowe and Poynton.

I know it's a big ask. But if anyone has any pointers it would be much appreciated.

As always, even the more solid figures, may have gaps. People lose captaincies unexpectedly or hold captaincies for a very short time (Months in the case of Minter) so please do correct if you know something I don't.

Younès Kaboul was club captain? Christ, I'd forgotten about that.

When Pochettino took over and asked the players who should be captain, I think.
Yeah, Kaboul actually kinda made sense at the time, he wasn't a bad player for us. Though the fact that Poch dropped him after, like, 3 games of being captain makes it a very short captaincy indeed. What's stranger to me is the Adebayor was voted as a vice captain. Just feels like the opposite of what you need maybe showed some problems in the squad!

Kaboul made sense as a captain. He was a leader and the first to come to a teammate's aid. There weren't too many in the squad who fit the vocal leader, approach the ref, fiery character, etc mold.

With that being said, wasn't Scott Parker captain at one point? Or am I making that up.

Didn't we have a massive clearout the following season? Maybe the squad's selections for captain and vice-captain convinced Poch that they needed to be moved on.

No, not quite. Scott Parker was at point a deputy for Dawson and/or King so would often captain the team, as Dawson was in and out the team during most of his stewardship and we know about King's problems.

Christ, Jamie Redkernapp was captain? Dark days.
Yep, and in fact it actually surprisingly hard to find any proof he actually was. It's like a case of collective amnesia. A lot of tables like this you sometimes see online jump straight to King, but because Redknapp was captain when I first started taking serious interest in Spurs, I remember it very clearly, and you can find some archived stuff which shows that. But it's much harder to find that information than it should be!

Everyone has a favourite depending on their era but for me, it has to be Gary Mabbutt.

It certainly was. A few matches in (he lasted 11 league matches as captain) there was some internal argument between mainly a french speaking gang minus Lloris and others such as Lloris and Kane. Well Kaboul picked a side in that argument, the losing side, and was sidelined entirely. Capoue of course was sold, despite IMO being well suited for Pochettino footie and Adebayor was dispatched on a roller coaster that only went down hill.
