The club has clearly identified the States as a top emerging market for football (soccer!), and rightly so. Especially from a business perspective.

I found these two paragraphs in particular really interesting:

The club has a growing presence in the region, with over 30 Official Supporters Clubs – more than any other Premier League team.

The growing interest in Tottenham Hotspur in North America is summed up by a 48% increase in the number of US fans registered on the club database within 12 months, with 45% increase in Canada.

More supporters clubs than any other PL team?!! That is a surprise considering the Yanks' love of 'winners', wonder why that is?!! Maybe Adam Richmond is more popular than I thought?!!
GO SPURS!! YAY!! :)

Maybe this will translate into more Tottenham merchandise being readily available over here . Right now it is nowhere to be found except by mail order at inflated prices, and I have never seen anyone wearing a Tottenham shirt.

At Denver airport on Sunday evening while waiting for our son to come in for Christmas I saw one twat wearing a scum shirt (with 'Wilshere' on the back ffs) and one Man United shirt. Lots of kids playing footie here and I see loads of Liverpool, ManUre and City shirts but no Tottenham.

As there are fewer fans than other fanbases, we likely make a larger attempt to connect with other fans.

Maybe DeAndre Yedlin is more of a commercial signing than for purely footballing reasons

Definitely think thats this is the case. Especially with the World Cup hype in 'Murica which Yedlin was a central figure to. Looks like a neat little player though so you won't hear me complaining (y)

I have friends that root for Swans, West Ham, and even Fulham. The usual suspects obviously are also represented but the Spurs bar in NYC is always packed.

It's gone in the opposite direction lately. One of the worst insults there are here for a sports fan is being labeled a "bandwagoner," which applies all the more in this case since the vast majority have no historical or familial ties so are each choosing our own club to support.

The timing was also rather perfect. Spurs were an incredibly entertaining team to watch at the end of Redknapp's reign, then Dempsey arrived, during his Spurs tenure his teammate Bale went ham and reached global superstar status, and then the NBC deal arrives and all it included such as Ted Lasso and Bale's face being draped over the world's busiest and most famous marketing intersection. Was just a very fortunate series of of consecutive events for Tottenham's fanbase in the US.

No maybe about it. I'm sure its the reason why he was signed rather than another relatively inexperienced RB/RW
Some people on here seem to denigrate his potential because they believe we signed him for the American market. He is, in fact, very very promising, and he could be a very good player if coached well. I'm sure Klinsmann had a lot to do with our signing of him.

It's true, they do. I think he was just an incredibly convenient option, as he does have very promising potential, is extremely athletic, is very popular in the US, and most importantly (as many overlook) is perfectly suited to the high wingback system Poch has always favored. So it shouldn't be any insult to him that it's clearly apparent that a component of the rationale for the buy was for US marketing, as it's just another factor of several good ones rather than a depreciating one.

I always thought that with the Dempsey and Friedel signings.
Dempsey was off the back of an 18 goal season for Fulham, Liverpool wanted him too. As someone else said Friedel upgraded our keeper position, so I'd say both were for football reasons. Yedlin is as well.

Surprised to see this actually. They've had a recent upsurge that has been accelerated by Howard's performances at the WC this past summer. Been seeing quite a few Everton shirts around and have several of my own buddies who have been Everton fans for a few years now.

The big three are still Man U, Liverpool, and Arsenal; but I'd say Chelsea and now Spurs are rapidly catching up. Despite all of Man City's success, I know and see very few City fans here. Have one good buddy who's a City fan, and he is literally the single only American I know to be a City fan or even seen wear City apparel. There is no circumventing the "bandwagoner" label upon choosing that club.
