Tottenham are in talks to offer Japhet Tanganga a new £15,000-a-week contract.

The 20-year-old has made just seven starts since breaking into the first-team under Jose Mourinho, who handed the defender his debut against Colchester in the EFL Cup before facing Liverpool on his first Premier League outing.

There will need to be a lot of scope to regularly review a contract that starts on 15k for a player with his potential.

Especially when there are youth players at Chelsea on 3 or 4 times that.

It does not sound too much in our little football world but christ thats like 70k a month.
And I am already a bit jealous of the people earning 4k a month lol.

This guy is so exciting. It will be nice to (hopefully) get him tied down.

Hercules has said this is already signed and he doesn't know why we haven't announced it. Unconnected to Mourinho himself stating that he wouldn't play him if his contract was running out etc.

Yep, I think that Jose was pointing out that his contract doesn't end this summer like all the press seemed to believe...I think he was referring to an option we had to extend it by another year.
Regardless the kid deserves a proper new long term contract.

I really hope it includes wage increases. If we bought him he would be on £50k a week easy

I agree, the boy should be on 20 to 30K at least & if he continues to progress we'll trying to sign new contracts every year, so give ourselves a bit of breathing space.

There are youth players apparently on 30K a week at Chelsea ( so I heard)

Daily mail reported it as him getting a 1500% increase on his wages. I wonder if they’d of expressed it like that had he been white?

The Daily Mail does seem to report on black players in a negative light as we’ve seen in the past.

He'll sign this and within a year I'm sure it will be reviewed and upped if he maintains this level, let alone improves.

He looks like the real deal and best defender to come through our ranks since we all know who! ?
